But 18 licenses in the Finger Lakes region remain tied up in the lawsuit. 💨New licenses could be approved as soon as Monday, April 3, when the Cannabis Control Board holds its monthly meeting. #Repost @420njevents ・・・ New York officials announced on March 2nd that they will double the number of adult-use dispensary licenses issued during the state’s first licensing round. Chris Alexander, executive director of the New York State Office of Cannabis Management (OCM), told the CCB on March 2nd that officials now plan to increase the number of adult-use cannabis retail licenses in the first licensing round to 300. However, a federal lawsuit has frozen adult-use licenses in five regions of the state, barring many licensees from opening their doors. A judge issued a ruling on the case in November that impacts roughly 40% of the proposed retail licenses. The state is currently appealing the decision. Commment your thoughts below 👇🏾 What We Know So Far: 🍃Earlier this month, Mayor Eric Adams and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced their team up to close down illegal cannabis shops in New YorkCity. 🍃The city is seeking to leverage a little-used provision of New York’s Real Property Actions and Proceedings Law to get building landlords to evict store owners who sell marijuana without a license. 🍃During a press conference, Mayor Adams made it clear that [they] “won’t stop until every illegal smoke shop is rolled up and smoked out,” 🍃But that’s a big undertaking. At the time, Sheriff Anthony Miranda made it clear to council members eager to eradicate the illegal pot shops that this tactic was unlikely to lead to stores being shut down right away. 🍃Despite that beginning so, many small businesses will be caught in the crosshairs as things move forward. They included 7 licenses, rules on social and economic equity, procedures for enforcement and violations, revised packaging rules, and more. The Cannabis Control Board (CCB) is voting on all of these today at 10 am, expect rigorous debate 🙄 . The CCB will also be approving 36 CAURD licenses, more conditional cultivator and processor licenses. Once the CCB adopts these proposed regulations the comment period will start. Although this impressive regulation package is a creative and laudable start, some of these numbers are a head scratcher. Economically, indoor at 3500 square feet (where you can do multiple runs) is a way better deal than your one run of a 10k square foot outdoor canopy. WTAF! And 100k sq ft indoor #climatechange #futuregenerations !?! 🫤We are still breaking them down and analyzing them but clearly comments and input is needed. We are seeing the OCM release revised regulations, which means they are not just reading comments, they are taking them to heart and making changes. WE NEED YOUR VOICES💚. Please stay engaged.
