“The Story of My Luscious Five Foot Lilies Blooming” This lily is a great, great, great grandbaby of a lily I planted in 2013. The original lily corm (bulb) doubled every year. The matriarch of this family is full of 13 blooms now, just waiting to open up. We moved this guy to tiny little garden plot by the front door of our manhattan building. It’s “accessible” so I’m hoping no one rips off the flower. I’ve taken over our 3 gardens this year with more gusto than my usual point and request. I’m very slow at it and only out for a very short amount of time. I’ve had three big falls - MS, uneven ground, heat is no match for my cane but only both times I needed help getting up, nice people untangled my legs and got me up. But even my purple red bruises are the shade of our red roses and purple gladiolus. And my bloody nose didn’t seem to hurt the flax a bit. (If you’ve got MS or knows someone with MS, my ice pack vest is crucial. I wear it every time I leave my building. But my bruises are no contest for the colors of our lilies, glads, and dinner plate dahlias that have all sprung open this week. This little garden area is the most “bare”. The others are just overflowing. But this giant lily is the first to bloom and I wanted to share the big day with each of you! Normally my posts are about my succulent obsession - but it’s nice to have some time with perennials too. Off for my six hour “nap”.
