Grand Central photography exhibit shows iconic landmarks on empty NYC streets | 6sqft

Last Thursday, the MTA Arts and Design announced a new installation going up in Grand Central Terminal. “Landmark City” showcases photographs of iconic landmark buildings that have been altered to appear on completely empty streets. The installation, by acclaimed photographer Marc Yankus, is set to run for a year in GCT’s East Dining Concourse.

My favourite Harlem new-build — David Adjaye's Sugar Hill!⁠ It contains 124 affordable apartments, museum and education centre. It might look a bit harsh at the first glance, but it was developed in close cooperation with the local community and fits surprisingly well into its surrounding. Just across the road stand the infamous Polo Grounds Towers.⁠

If you are trying to find ways how to stop constantly thinking about the pandemic, I do recommend illustration of Beaux-Arts skyscrapers. It will occupy your mind for a while! It took me good 3 days to draw the Helmsley Building by Warren & Wetmore (architects of Grand Central).⁠

Brutalist GW Bridge Bus Terminal designed by Italian architect Pier Luigi Nervi.
