Blue Admiral
@spaghetti-machete submitted: dad's been putting some steels up in a (not underpinned dear god NO foundations) farmhouse in [removed] (please remove location). they've been having a lot of butterflies around – it's a pretty high-up location near a bunch of fields of grass that don't see much action or mowing. this chrysalis appeared overnight! any idea what it is?
I’m not great at IDing chrysalises, but this one to me looks like either a small tortoiseshell or a European peacock. I’d lean towards the former!

I think I’ve seen more question marks this year than I ever had. Still wanting to see another eastern comma.

The Vanessa cardui (“Painted Lady”) butterfly rests on a plant in Iran’s the Hyrcanian forests, which were also added to the Unesco world heritage list. The ancient forests span 530 miles (850km) along the coast of the Caspian Sea and are home to the Persian leopard and nearly 60 other mammal species, as well as 160 bird species.
