It's Work-in-Progress Wednesday and I have stuff written!!!! First up something from the latest WIP I've started (yes, I know, my list is huge enough already but I've sixties spies on the brain) - briefly titled as 'napollya angst fic' except it's really not as bad as all that, it's more a misunderstanding fic than anything else, on Napoleon's part-
Because Illya's wearing a ring on his left hand for the first two seasons but it disppears between seasons - since early S1 I've been of the opinion that this is a symbol of their relationship and so I wondered what Napoleon would think when he stops wearing it...
Especially if he doesn't actually get a proper chance to ask him about it...
THe almost had a heart attack when he realised Illya wasn’t wearing his ring. It really shouldn’t have been a big deal, all things considered – that Illya had opted to wear it in public at all had been a gamble, one that had ultimately paid off as most people assumed it was for mission purposes-- (That, and Ukrainians wore theirs on the right hand, but Napoleon expected most people not to know that detail-- Or even realise Illya was Ukrainian, for that matter.) And ordinarily Napoleon would’ve just brushed it off – maybe it needed cleaning, maybe he’d gotten damaged, maybe Illya just felt it wasn’t worth the risk of people starting to ask more questions. But a few days of it being absent and Illya not even mentioning it… They’d argued a few weeks ago. Maybe that was why it was bothering him even though there was no reason to assume any connection between the two because it’d been about something so trivial Napoleon barely remembered what it was, but to then come in and see the lack of gold on his partner’s finger…
There's a reason behind it and Illya doesn't mention it because he figures Napoleon can work out the why fairly easily-
Which he might've done, if not for the fact they don't really get to spend much time together over the next few weeks which gives Napoleon plenty of time to spiral - the fun's in working out just what would push him to spiral like he's going to.
Next, some more of 'strands of (space)time', and a new player enters the chat! This one takes place before the Midnight scene.
One of the oldest Creations in existence is there before them. The One Forged In The Heart Of The First Star. There’s been many since, yet there’s something of a reverence for the First. She’s Kin, yet not, JoyTrevMelnakTerrinBart is so very young compared to her- "What can we do?” The Star Seed made a choice. Long ago. Reached out to Joy because it had spent so many millions of years watching the Planet Earth develop, every single change that happened, every single living thing that evolved, that lived, died, became extinct, rose up from the ashes of what came before- It knew it didn’t want to be used for destruction— A Star brings Creation. A Star brings life.
Hey, if the showrunners won't do anything with the concepts, I will. The Star Seed will be an important player going forward, and I like the ideas of stars having this power anyway. I'm still working on the ones focused on/around 'The Well' but hopefully I'll be pressing ahead with those...
Especially as I'm very much looking forward to sharing my ideas for 'Lucky Day', which is when the big AU shifts really start showing as that episode is ceetainly going to be rewritten (fear not, though, Conrad Clark remains a turd of epic proportions!)
And something more from my 'Nyssa x Lyta AU'!! Set pre-series, as the relationship comes to an end.
Nyssa’s always known this relationship was going to end sooner or later. She’s always known this could never be permanent, because it’s just not the world they live in. She’ll never be allowed to officially be with Lyta-Zod— She’s never tried to pretend otherwise— (Maybe that’s not quite true. There’s been times when she’s fantasised about it but...it always comes crashing down. She needs to remain unattached, she needs to be truly free to continue working alongside her father, to continue their plans to bring down the Voice of Rao... He’d never allow it anyway. Neither would Jayna-Zod.) It’s been difficult to accept, though, which is why Nyssa’s usually done her utmost to not think about it if she doesn’t have to. The lying, the sneaking around, the stolen touches and kisses, the liaisons she’s managed to arrange, she’s compartmentalised them all even though she’s always known— Tonight’s their last night. There’s starting to be too many questions for their liking, sooner or later someone’s going to find out that shouldn’t and... then they’ll both be brought down. That’s not acceptable. There’s far too much at stake for that.
At the moment this is going to start the fic, but this could well change as it goes on - it all depends on what feels right for the story.
