6. “I... I can’t believe it’s really you. I thought I’d never see you again.” For Peter 🥺
You hadn’t truly realized how much you’d miss the simple ambience of Never Land. The sights, sounds, and smells were all so unique; almost magical in quality. You know that you’d never mistake Never Land for anywhere else.
Inhaling deeply, bringing the rich smell of pine and freshly turned soil, you can feel a slight smile beginning to form on your lips. Your eyes taking in every minute movement that happened on the ground below you. From here the moving figures were just dots but you could practically feel their joy— the bond that they all shared.
The Lost Boys, even after all this time, were still a cohesive unit. A family in everything except blood but even more close.
A fact that you knew had something to do with their fearless leader. The one man that would never fail in protecting them; in saving them. Something you knew more intimately then you knew yourself because he had never failed in trying to do so for you. Even when you woke up in this familiar place that seemed so alien now, he had made sure that you wouldn’t wake up alone. Leaving behind a shirt of his that you’d recognize anywhere.
The green tunic being one of the most prominent features of your childhood. A shirt that you had seen him wear more times than you can feasibly count. An item that brought you back to moonlit strolls and cheeky grins shared over a crackling fire. A time where you knew with your entire heart you were loved so deeply, so strongly, that not even time would tear you apart for long.
Closing your eyes, your smile turns into a grin, as the faint sound of feet touching the wood planks behind you echoes across the air. The breeze bringing the familiar scent of sweet berries and pine; a combination that was even more unique than Never Land.
Turning around, you open your eyes to meet shimmering brown. A gaze that you weren’t sure was real let alone that you’d be able to see it again. The boy, now man, being the only person to ever truly capture your heart.
Your utterance of his name, the single word filled with so much longing, seems to be the thing Peter was looking for. As he automatically takes you into his arms and lets loose a shaky laugh. Without much thought you nuzzle into his neck; inhaling his familiar scent.
“I-I can’t believe it’s really you.” Is the soft whisper that leaves your lips next. Your words ghosting across his neck as you cling to him. “I thought I’d never see you again.”
Another shaky laugh falls from his lips at the sentiment. “What have I told you, huh?” He murmurs, just as gently, against your ear. His voice like liquid sunlight after the longest night. “As long as you keep dreaming, keep believing, Never Land will never leave you.”
Pulling away Peter gently touches your cheek. His eyes misty as another smile appears on his lips.
“And as long as you’re alive I will always come find you.”
