Hi I saw your post about nysssa as I was anxiously going through the tag lol, I sent in an application for visual arts and should find out in two weeks if I got in or not. My art teacher says she thinks I’m going to get in, and I’m really excited but also nervous. I live in buffalo and I’ve never been away by myself for long, and I have a hard time making friends. Idk I’m just excited and nervous and figured I’d talk to you :)
Hey so I did NYSSSA about five years ago now (can’t believe it’s been so long omg) and had the best experience of my high school career. I don’t know what it’s like now, but when I went it was a small tight-knit program of ~90 students and I made a great group of friends very quickly. I don’t know of anyone during the program that didn’t seem to have a good time or people to hang with. Keep in mind that no one knows each other so everyone is trying to make friends. NYSSSA is also great to get out of your comfort zone but in a very supportive environment. I remember being so excited to constantly be around other artists and I learned a tremendous amount. It was also my first time being away for so long but I think that’s the case for most people that attend, and is also a good way to get a sneak peak about what college kind of is. When I attended it was at Fredonia which is very close to buffalo so I’m sure they’ll let you go home for a day or your family to come see you if you get homesick. I also did visual arts btw. Please feel free to message me with any other questions. I would 100% recommend NYSSSA and can almost guarantee that you will love it.

your art is too sweet. muddy it up a little, don’t be afraid of some darkness.
