Peter Thompson Mood Board [7/?] ♔ Peter + people
It’s been nearly two months since Logan had -- very begrudgingly -- given the green light on Peter’s plan to try and get a confession from Bafina. Two months had brought nothing to the table, not a scrap of evidence that would be permissible even in a small claims court, and the tension that has resulted from the case grinding to a standstill is palpable. Logan has spent the most of the time holed up in his office pouring over every one of the sizable files that have accumulated since the start of the case; the days not spent at the station usually involve him chasing down dead-end leads and trying to pry open the tight lips of any of Bafina’s friends in hopes that he might get at least something for his troubles. Peter hasn’t been fairing any better -- the meetings with Bafina -- which the detective has become increasingly wary of -- have yet to yield anything of substance. “Could go back to that pub Hattie saw him in...” Logan is mostly talking to himself now, chewing on the end of a pen as he looks over the case file yet again.
Peter Thompson Mood Board [6/?] ♔ Peter + Hattie Harris part 1
What a goddamn punk. It’s bad enough that he had to deal with the winking -- which has happened a lot more than he’d really ever expected, even as a joke -- but now he’s parked outside (of Peter’s mother’s home, of all places) picking the kid up like it’s some sort of prom date. Which it isn’t, because they had both been joking about that, winks and smug shit-eating grins aside. The offer for drinks stands as a friendly outing between partners -- work partners, he has to clarify to everyone who raises their eyebrows. Something needs to be done to bridge the gap that the cocaine incident and subsequent fallout caused, because honestly, Logan doesn’t have an ounce of faith in Peter’s promise to keep his nose clean and to keep the detective informed, and he’s fairly sure the journalist doesn’t have much faith in the older man either, if his barbed criticisms are anything to go by. What better place to start the mending -- as much mending as the two of them can manage -- than over some beers? And that’s why he -- very grudingly -- manages to steel his nerves and step up to the door, knocking on it and waiting for an answer.
"Glad to see you're still in one piece."
"What've you got for me?"
He hadn't heard much of anything from the younger man since their disagreement (a term that's pretty damn conservative, all of the yelling considered), but he had hoped that these wouldn't be the circumstances under which they met again. The detective doesn't know what pisses him off more -- Peter's impromptu undercover work, or the fact that this repeat performance isn't at all surprising. He had known this would happen, he had tried to explain to the reporter that Bafina is a loose canon, that this kind of work is not safe when it's done alone. Naturally, any and all warnings had fallen on deaf ears, which was also infuriatingly unsurprising.
But all of the fight leaves him when he walks into the little hole-in-the-wall diner and sees the younger man sitting by himself in the corner. He has no interest in any kind of told-you-so moment; he honestly just wishes that whatever had shaken Peter up hadn't had to happen to him in the first place. Logan slides into the booth seat across from the reporter, concern touching at his features as he folds his hands and sets them on the table. "What happened?"
Text | Logan + Peter
Logan: Something's come up. How do you feel about investigative work that doesn't involve snorting any more cocaine?
Peter: I’m a little busy right now. What’s this investigative work?
Logan: I'll fill you next time you come by, whenever that may be. What's got you tied up? Stopped by the Times to drop this stuff off for you and you were AWOL.
"You. In here. Now."
He had assumed that giving it a day and waiting for Peter to sober up would give him some time to calm down. As it turns out, it hasn't quite worked out that way. "Sit."
