Summary:
“I need you to mind my hearth while I’m deployed,” he said, clearly as possible, and hoping it didn’t come across as some sort of inuendo. “Normally, I’d ask Crowe to do it, but this is the first time she’s deploying with us, so she can’t do it, and my landlords are going home to visit family during the second week and won’t be here to watch it. I know, I know it’s a lot to ask, but I’ll deal with bringing it to your house, or I guess I could bring it here –”
Or, Nyx needs someone to help tend to his hearth, and asks his boyfriend. Cultural discussions follow.

Summary:
"I told you that we should've just bought one of those instant pop-up tents," Crowe says, and Nyx would bristle if he wasn't already so damn exhausted.
[Written for Day 7 of Nyx Week 2022, for the prompt 'camping' and 'found family'.]
Nyx took one look at the King’s expression and decided that retreating was the best option. He took advantage of the stunned confusion that filled the glaives, half of whom were staring at the king and the other staring at Glauca, to quietly leave through the closest side door. Luche could complain at him all he wanted later but right now, Nyx didn’t think he would be able to keep himself from screaming if he had to interact with people he had seen die.
At least he had the comfort of knowing that they wouldn’t die by Glauca’s hands now.
The Citadel was buzzing with people, both staff and a bunch of tours, allowing Nyx to simply fade into the background despite his uniform. He got a few questioning glances from the guards stationed around but no one tried to stop him. Odd but welcomed at the moment.
Nyx turned into one of the inner gardens of the Citadel and came to a sudden stop when he saw that someone was sitting by the fountain. Before he could back away, the figure spoke up. “Glaive Ulric, I was hoping you’d come see me soon.” They patted the stone rim beside them. “Why don’t we have a chat?”
Nyx stiffened at the words but did as asked. He settled beside the person in front of him, frowning as he got a better look at them. There was something…off with them. Hesitantly, Nyx asked, “Your Highness? Is everything alright?”
Prince Noctis’ eyes danced with mirth as he responded, “Absolutely, even better now that Glauca won’t be an issue any longer.”
Nyx choked on his saliva, eyes wide in shock. “What? How? But…?” It couldn’t be that the news had reached the prince so quickly right? No. If that had been the case, the prince wouldn’t be all alone here. That last thought had Nyx frowning as he glanced around, confirming the lack of guard, shield or retinue in the garden.
Prince Noctis laughed as he reached and tapped Nyx’s right hand, “The Ring holds onto the shades of everyone who wears it. It held even yours for a time.” Nyx stared at the teenager, though he wasn’t a teen now was he? He gave Nyx a bitter smile, glancing away. “I’m sorry.”
“What for?”
“I’m the reason why you’re here.” Nyx had half expected it, from the moment he had realized that the prince also knew the not-future that was never going to happen. Prince Noctis’ shoulders slumped as though a heavy weight was on them, making Nyx itch to reach out and take it away from such young shoulders. Instead he waited silently for the prince to speak.
“After I had done my duty, I found myself in an empty dream. Without my friends or family, a supposedly happy and peaceful afterlife holding just me and Luna. It was a prison made by Bahamut.” Prince Noctis met Nyx’s eyes with a wry smile. “Then you showed up with Carbuncle, always the Hero even after your death. You showed up, having somehow kept part of the Ring’s power, and got me out of there.”
Nyx felt his breath catch as he realized what the odd parts of memories from his not-future meant. He’d thought they were just dreams from his not-future, since they were so fuzzy and odd. But no, he remembered it.
He remembered the small fox astral showing up from the bonfire while Nyx was partying with Crowe, Selena, and all those he had lost. He remembered hesitating as he heard the plight of the Prince he had placed his faith in once before. Remembered Selena’s smile as she told him to just go already, that she’d be waiting when he got back.
He remembered how he found King Noctis chained against the Crystal of Light, trapped in a dream of Bahamut’s making. And Nyx remembered how they had managed to use that very Crystal to send themselves back in time to prevent the tragedies of that not-future. “Fuck.” HE was the only thing he could think to say for a long time.
Then a series of even bigger realizations struck him. With a groan, Nyx slumped forward, face coming to rest in his hands as he mumbled. “I’m still tied to the Ring aren’t I.”
“Yup.”
“And the Crystal.”
“Uh huh.”
“The Prophecy?”
Noctis smirked, “Screwed up that one, and that means we have to figure out another way to get rid of the Scourge. What do you say, Nyx Ulric? Do you think you’re up to being Eos’ Hero?”
“Fuck you.” Was the only thing Nyx could say as he allowed himself to drop to the floor and whined.
