Meet Mamta! Before @waterharvestorg came in and helped her family with the instalation of a "tanka" designed to provide her and her five sisters and mother with enough drinking water for the year and a roof rain water collecting system to fill that water, both her, her mother and older sister spent between 4 a 7 (yes!! Seven!) Hours walking to nearest drinking water source to collect water for the family. Every day! In the case of her mother for over 25 years. No weekends... No bank holidays... not much time for school! Since then Mamta has become an example for her younger sisters becoming the first women of her village to attend college study level, with the help of PKS, a local organisation supported by @waterharvestorg in the field, Mamta and other woman friends have created a women only SHG (self help group) to support women from her village. With the help of the SHG Mamta borrowed some money to buy a sewing machine and support her art studies. She now takes fabric from people and makes them bespoke clothes charging some money for her services of sewing. With the extra time, her mother is also able to work in agriculture for other people and get an extra income that they invested in a buffalo to sell milk to others in the village. So is the power of water... the power of life and opportunity. So the next time you fill a glass of water in your "infinite" tap, think of Mamta and how lucky you are. And checkout @Waterharvest on Insta and Facebook. Their work is incredible! If you can think about supporting their work thorigh abl donation. Or at least, share this post!
