Re-found online this beautiful photo of staged models of a Mother Cynognathus and her pups, designed by Jane Burton for Dougal Dixon’s book The Age of Dinosaurs. I still have a copy of the book myself. The info and dinosaur designs therein are pretty outdated but I really do love the photos created by Burton, especially the ones that we see during the earlier, Permian period section.
I don’t know why but I’ve always (as a kid and as an adult) really liked Cynognathus as a prehistoric animal, and I can’t imagine why. I think it might just have to do with its cool pedigree as a lizard that looked like an early dog that just happened to live in the period just before the dinosaurs.
So, here, you can also have this other Cynognathus illustration that I remember from the old Microsoft Dinosaurs program.
