This city changed since I've been gone.

The Surge made things worse. A lot of budgets going to the police to keep the peace, only for them to knock the weak around once it was over.

FAKES is closing its offices. Immediately tomorrow.

Dean’s eyes widen.  “Bitch,” he replies fondly, almost reflexively at this point.  He gently curls his fingers around the amulet, lifting it out of the box.  He had regretted getting rid of it nearly since the moment he’d tossed it.  “Where did you find this?”

So I got bad news and badder news.

Not even anything good out of this situation?

Maybe. See your power core is running dry. The reason why your utilities and enhancers are like this is because the suit is currently running on preserved power. It's taking all the energy that it needs to at least function and using it, least by now you'll have to be dragging that thing with your own body.

All right so the bad and badder news I need a new battery. I'm sure a tech retailer still carries these things.

And see this is the badder news. Considering the use those power cores went to robotic facilities and suits like those during The Surge, power cores were a part of the whole you know major teck outlaw thing.

All right so now I see what the worst part is. Telling me I can't just go into a BestBuy and pick one with an extended warranty. Well what are the options Sam?

You could still run your suit on reserve power. Not at full potential sure but that's an option. Or if you could probably you know have a lot of life and give up this whole vigilantism

I mean more than one option that isn't quitting.

Then a personal last resort option I would have to give you, one i know you're not a fan of, but maybe you'll just have to hang with the wrong crowd.

Listen I'll go ahead and browse on the dark web and look on some offers about remnants from The Surge incident, I'll let you know about what I can find.

Unf for Emma? Maybe shielding her from a spell gone wrong? Or to get some creep at a bar to leave her alone? 😌

“Wha....”  The air rushed out of Emma’s lungs as Sam slammed her into the wall.  She really hadn’t been expecting that. She also hadn’t been expecting the spell that she had been mixing to suddenly sputter and spark before it blew up in the cauldron.  He had saved her from some potentially awful burns and who knew what other damage.  

“O-oh,” she breathed in, surprised by the solid muscled weight of him holding her there.  It took her a second to find her voice.  “Thank you.”

“You didn’t spook me,” the teen insisted much too quickly, not wanting to admit that he had.  Unfortunately, not all the things that she had picked up or inherited from Dean were the most healthy of coping mechanisms.  She picked up her backpack and pulled out a cheap, threadbare white hotel towel and passed it off to Sam to wipe off with before she answered his question.  “I dunno, Dad and Cas were, you know... making eyes at each other, like they do.  So I decided to go out for a ride and I caught your scent and got curious.”

She tilted her head slightly.  “I didn’t know that you were going out on a hunt.”

9. There’s only one bed and we sleep as far away as possible from each other but wake up cuddling

The two of them were stuck out in the city when the sunstarted to go down and it wasn’t safe to head back to the caravan with creeperslining the streets. It had been a long day and Tucker was exhausted. He wasn’tabout to say that out loud to warrant another jab about his age from Sam, buthe knew she felt the same way. That’s why they’d somehow ended up blockadedinto someone’s apartment, which comedically had only a single bed.

Tucker tried to convince the woman that she could take thebed and he’d sleep on the floor but as expected, it had turned into anargument. In the end, both of them are lying on the small bed in the tinybedroom of the apartment they’d chosen. He gave a gruff goodnight beforepassing out, his body practically falling off the edge of the bed to avoidbrushing up against Sam. It wasn’t that he was afraid to touch her because he disliked her or thought she’d take it the wrong way. He was afraid that if he let his guard down, it was going to prove his feelings were right.

When morning sun came in through the sheer curtains of theroom, Tucker felt warmth next to him and snuggled against it without thinkingabout it. He was still half-dreaming about a world before this entire fuckingmess had happened. Back when people went to see movies, when they took each other out fordinner, and when they didn’t need to have a weapon on them at all times. The slight snugglingquickly turned into more intense hugging and it took a few minutes before his brain realizedwhat was happening.

“Fuck,” Tucker said in a loud voice, not sure if Sam wasawake or even aware of what was happening. “Sorry, I was somewhere else and youwere warm and –“ he stopped himself mid-sentence when he realized he wasrambling like an idiot. Sam turned toward him, her eyes bleary with sleep, andshe simply rolled her eyes. “Roll over, jackass, I’m the big spoon,” she demanded and Tuckercouldn’t help but grin as he did what she said, letting himself drift back offto sleep, if only for a little while.
