Project post for the little Wards Master Quality. How it came to me, the handle in progress and the final product. It weighed 1-1/4lbs on my scales and the more I look at it the closer I think that probably is to it’s original weight. Feels great in the hand and will be assisting me in future carving projects for sure. I’m looking forward to seeing how handy it is. It’s difficult to say if the handle was original or not. The way I understand it the “Master Quality” line hadn’t been used for decades and Wards went belly up decades ago. The poll had (as you can see in some of the pics) some grinding already done, and the blue paint on the handle raises some questions as well, two clues that perhaps this hatchet had been given a new life at some point in its history. Still, I felt it was appropriate to make the new handle octagonal just in case.
