Synthesis in Organic Chemistry is like if Betty Crocker herself demanded you reverse engineer a chocolate cake and somehow know the exact measurements of all ingredients without looking at the damn box.
Just rewatching orgo lectures ... very lost and my exam is next Thursday 🤦🏾♀️
02.12.2017
Woke up at 7:28am for an 8:00am meeting but at least I made it. Currently spending some quality time with my o-chem notes, today has been very productive :D
also... I’M GOING TO DO A STUDYBLR VLOGMAS
Organic Chemistry
Orgo, organic, O-chem. Whatever you want to call it, IT is one of the most dreaded classes for STEM majors. As a person who has always struggled with chemistry, walking into that classroom at the beginning of this semester was incredibly intimidating. I had heard so many things: It’s a huge weed out class, it’s hard, it is an entirely new way of looking at chemistry, nothing will prepare you, etc.
Some of these things are true.
It is hard. It is a weed out class for all science graduate programs. It is entirely different from any chemistry class you have taken thus far.
However, it IS doable. You may not get an A (I’ll admit I probably won’t) but a B is very possible and acceptable. Let me emphasize that last part again: getting a B in Organic Chemistry is okay. I’m going to tell you something else too, you ready? I know a doctor who got a C in her first semester of Organic Chemistry. She thought her life was over, but she pulled it together and got an A in her second semester. She made it. She’s a doctor now. You will be too.
Sometimes we get caught up in these classes and extracurriculars and feel like we have to be perfect. We don’t. I have to remind myself constantly.
After all of that, we all obviously want to do well, so here’s some orgo tips.
- Google “Christine’s notes vcu” for a compiled overview/summary of notes for each chapter
- Watch Khan Academy videos
- Really do the assigned textbook problems. Seriously.
- Remember: You are smart and you will get through this. Believe in yourself!
