I want to convince my parents to let me go on T, but my mom says i should wait until im 18 and my dad doesnt know im trans because i dont feel like hed accept me fully but i have really bad dysphoria and i wont turn 18 for a while and i dont know how much longer i can deal with it.
I know in some places it’s illegal for people to start HRT until they turn 18, so if that is the case where you live I can kinda understand where your mom is coming from. But I also know that 16 is a pretty common age limit for this, so if that’s the case for where you live then I don’t think you should have to put up with two more years without it for no good reason.
If you aren’t already in touch with a gender therapist, you could perhaps treat that as the next step. Ask your mom to help you get an appointment with one. Explain that seeing a specialist therapist isn’t going to mean you’re instantly starting testosterone, but just that you’ve got a professional to talk to about these issues and the potential to get help quicker in the future.
When meeting your therapist, you could explain to them what you told me here; that your mom is stopping you from starting HRT at the moment and that you don’t know if you can manage to wait until you’re 18.
They might be able to help you convince your mom to let you start earlier. Or if not, they should be able to help you find ways to cope while you wait.
