The Unseen World: The Court of Blood
If you have been listening to our podcast the Genesys Archives, you might be familiar with vampire Stephan and his vampire-themed nightclub Sanguine Desire. What you might not know is that Stephan and his underlings are only a tiny facet of one of the most unique and diverse factions in the Unseen World: The Court of Blood.
When making the Unseen World, I wanted it to include monsters and myths from cultures across the planet, so when I designed the vampires of this setting I had no intention of sticking to the modern stereotypes. The Court of Blood, sometimes referred to as the Blood Court, is unique among the factions of the Unseen World in that it is a conglomerate of many different vampire “clans,” representing the many types of vampires found in cultures all over the world.
The three main vampire clans in the Court of Blood are the Strigoi of Europe, the Jiangshi of Asia, and the Camazotz of South & Central America. Smaller clans exist across the world, such as the Yara-ma-yha-who of Australia, the Asanbosam and Obayifo of Africa, and many more. These disparate vampire clans have only come together to form the Court of Blood the last several centuries, as humans have become increasingly dangerous and the various factions have become more involved in mortal politics.
Over the next few days I hope you will join me as I go on an adventure exploring each of the three main clans within the Court of Blood and their mythological and folkloric origins.
