as someone who experiences delusions & hallucinations and has a temper, there's something comforting to me about the goddess lyssa. like she understands, she understands the mood swings and the anger. she understands the frenzied rage. when all you can do is be furious. with choppy, uncontrollable movements. she understands.

Macaria, Greek goddess of blessed death. She guarantees peaceful journeys to the afterlife. She is a daughter of Hades, and is perhaps a more gentle counterpart of Thanatos, god of non-violent death. She is the stark contrast of Thanatos's blood-craving sisters, the Keres, merciless spirits of slaughter and disease, whose domain is violent death.

Macaria is connected with the passage of souls to the Islands of the Blessed (Nesoi Makarioi). Those who pass by her touch are "the blessed ones". She is a companion of her sister Melinoe.

| Hedylogos | Known primarily through his appearance on various clay works, Hedylogos is the God of Sweet Talk. He’s literally the Flatterer! More generously translated as Winning Speech. Part of the retinue of Aphrodite, the Erotes. One red-figure makeup jar has him sharing duties with Pothos (yearning) as a chariot steed for Aphrodite, showing him as a winged man wearing a golden crown (Colen, 135-6). He could also appear as a satyr.

Melinoe, Greek goddess of ghosts, bringer of nightmares and madness. The lady of the spirits of the Underworld. She is the daughter of Persephone. It is possible that she has no father and was born on earth. It is also possible that she is Persephone and Hades's child and was born in the Underworld.

She exercises her powers in the realm of the soul's passage, presiding over propitiations offered to the ghosts of the dead. At night she wanders the earth with her train of ghostly companions, often striking fear into the hearts of men.

Melinoe is described as being half dark and half light, of dual chthonic and ouranic nature, perhaps a manifestation taking after the duality of her mother, who is of both above and below. She has the power to turn any mortal insane with her appearance and her phantom companions. She can bring night terrors to mortals by manifesting in various strange forms. She leads the restless spirits of the Underworld, and they haunt the living in the night, scaring anyone in their paths. This was said to be the reason why dogs would bark and howl at seemingly nothing in the darkness, for she and her ghost train can walk the earth in shadows and silence.

UPG story time:

When Hades brought Persephone to the Underworld, he already had a daughter, and so did she. Persephone had one condition for Hades: she must have her daughter with her, and that her daughter would have the freedom to come and go as she wished. The king of the Underworld and his new queen agreed to be parents to each others' children, and the two girls would be raised together as sisters. Thus Macaria and Melinoe grew up together, close as two siblings can be. True to his word, Hades lets Melinoe split her time between above and beneath the earth, taking her entourage with her when and where she feels like, and Macaria is free to go with her. When work calls, Macaria would often accompany Melinoe above ground, and Melinoe would often assist Macaria with her duties as a goddess of death.

Worshipping obscure deities that you can never find enough information on is not always easy, but very rewarding.

Melinoe, Macaria, and Melissa are just so loveable! 👻🐝

Maybe it's this time of the year, but it feels to me as if Melinoe and Macaria have been around much lately. 👻🎃
