Winter Solstice gift for obsessionality!
For @obsessionality. I'm not part of the Deaf or hard of hearing community, but I've studied it - please correct me if I've made any glaring errors! This story was inspired by a scene where I imagined Deaf music teacher Lan Zhan coming home to Wei Ying and A-Yuan, his beautiful family. My giftee said they like fluff, happy endings, and idiots in love so I figured I might as well bring this idea to life!I hope you enjoy this sweet story!

A Worthy Celebration
Lan Zhan waved farewell to his high school students as they piled out of the music room, already signing excitedly with each other about the upcoming vacation weekend. He hoped some of them would deign to practice their instruments, but he couldn’t fault them if they didn’t. The Gusu School for the Deaf was renowned for its rigor and high academic standards, so they’d been working hard all semester—they deserved a break.
His own excitement fueled his movements as he swept through the rows of chairs to straighten music stands and collect any forgotten sheet music. Tonight was his tenth anniversary, and his husband had promised a worthy celebration for the occasion. Lan Zhan wasn’t sure what constituted ‘worthy’ in Wei Ying’s mind, as there’d been no clues indicating what he’d planned. The only thing Lan Zhan knew was that Wei Ying’s brother was coming to watch their six-year-old son for the night.
In the clarinet section, Lan Zhan found an electric tuner left behind on a chair. He was just about to ponder whose seat it was when movement caught his eye. He whirled around to face Anne, one of his students. She smiled apologetically and tucked her clarinet case under her arm so she could sign.
“I knew I’d forgotten something. Thank you!”
