Create characters who create drama
Something I have noticed I have been doing is create B-characters who provide interesting conflicts for the main character. The main character of my recent story is sightly selfish, so I have introduced a character who is selfless. I look forward to seeing how they interact!
Be with someone that makes you happy
Don't ever let someone make you feel ashamed to be your self. Relationships such as those ARE NOT WORTH IT.
Keeping Your Cool
You'll work with a lot types of people throughout your career. Luckily, I've been blessed with working with some amazing people. Unluckily, I've also had to work with some, let's just say, interesting clients. You know the one, unrealistic, know-it-all (but doesn't really know it all), I went to this university so I'm an expert, etc. Keeping your cool. Learn how to do it. It's a necessary skill to have. Plus, it's a question you'll be asked in job interviews, so you better know how to answer it! Keep your cool, walk away from your desk, go grab a soda, do whatever you need to do to keep your cool. Let's clear something up please. Kind of a public service if you will. Let's say you happen to be passing a gutter, or any type of hole where a murdering molester clown can hide really. And suddenly a clown appears, no matter how much you might want to talk to the clown, do not stop and chit chat. Obviously if the clown is down in a hole it's an evil murdering molester clown, bottom line. So use this advice as a general rule of thumb. To reiterate, if you happen to pass a gutter and a clown just happens to pop up and starts talking to you, run. Do not stop and finger him, exchange tumblrs, or chat, just run.
