Day 5: Favorite JC Scene - The Angry Warrior Story.
“The woman warrior was brave, and beautiful. And very wise. The angry warrior swore to himself that he would stay by her side, doing whatever he could to make her burden lighter. From that point on, her needs would come first. And in that way, the warrior began to know the true meaning of peace.”

At first when i saw that Jake and Cassie broke up it didnt really clicked for me. Like, i knew it would happen, it made sense for it to happen, but it also just... happened. Even if it made sense it also kinda didn't. It's clear why Jake gave up, but kinda felt out of character for Cassie to not try to make it work with him, you know? Even if she should give up.
But now that some months passed i think im picturing it way better. I mean, first there's the ptsd, right? Both of them went throught a lot of trauma and that could've brought them together or apart, its a gamble. They also clashed in important moments of how to deal with the war so ofc they'll clash abt the aftermath, or maybe not clash but like. Ok, let's say she goes to dinner with his family.
Very normal, very acceptable to have your girlfriend come over, maybe it was even his parents who arranged that as an attempt at normalcy after the war. But like. Yeah.
Do you see what i'm saying?
All of them grieving, not knowing how to handle each other, a wedge between the parents and the child, the war sized elephant crammed in the small dining room of a house they where given after the whole state was blown up. Cassie feeling an urge to protect Jake in this space where they keep talking about a lot of non-things, open conversation and justify him cus she loves him and cus she did all those things with him... and Jake does not want that. None of it. Actualy he doesnt want anything. He doesnt know how to proceed about jackshit while Cassie is desperate trying to move on, its the one thing she's been desperate about since the begining. And i dont even think Jake's parents will be hostile towards him at home (well, maybe once) its just that in general... how is the family supposed to deal with that? Aside from avoidance? And she can't roll with that, she'll try but she can't roll with that. But it would be cruel of her to force them to face this.
And then there's Rachel. If we're meant to believe that the relationship between the girls was that deep then, like. Having to justify Jake, to justify herself, to the Berensons and the whole world while Rachel is a casualty. She went to recognize her best friend's body for god's sake, that has to do something to a person. Does Cassie blame him or herself? Or everybody? Cause she could. You see, i think if Rachel had survived she would have a hard time, but would make it, y'know? Wouldnt be that extraordinary. They all had some level of ptsd and only Marco got better to the point of transforming into literal James Corden which one might say is actualy still a type of ptsd , so even if Rachel's adjustment to society came in as a surprise to Cassie, to me it wouldnt.
But Rachel did not survived so everything is into question, Cassie might be looking back all the time wondering what could've happened differently. "I hate that he didnt told me of his plan", "If i knew abt it how could i convince her to step back? Would i convince her to step back?", "Did she said yes cus we convinced her she couldnt make it after the war?" Could she point fingers? Sure, but it doesnt seem in character for her to stay in this place of blaming others unless is just accepting it as shared blame. Plus there are too many moments they could change and nobody knows if it would go better or worse.
Jake on the other hand just blames himself. For everything, no bigger picture. He wants to comfort Cassie but doesnt know how to, doesnt even knows how to accept the comfort she offers. He is afraid she blames him too so after sometime he'll just avoid the subject. I mean, do you think Jake ever visited Sarah and Jordan after the funeral? Might've thought of it but im pretty sure he didn't. If Cassie tries to explain what she's feeling and process it all with him he won't follow and if he does try to follow they might fall into the "why do i had to be the leader?" rabbit hole. And the 17000 he killed. Another thing to make him afraid of Cassie's eyes, Cassie's judgement, Cassie's pity.
And then she got job offers. Interviews. College, book deals. I think they both felt relieved abt being able to avoid each other throught that.
“i can bear pain as long as it has meaning” is my favorite quote of all time it legitimately helps me get thru my day everytime i remember it, it’s oddly uplifting
and my first encounter with the quote was from that fucking guy fieri frame blog with this pic

Oshan/Sally is capable of existing in any amount of water thanks to weird ocean dimension magic ... stuff. This is how they were able to be in Onceler's coffee mug and Janitor's mop bucket/the water spilled from the bucket.
