As someone from a lower middle class southern town whose people make a living similar to them in the OBX: trawling, fishing, oystering, crabbing, carpentry, and construction. If a bunch of random rich people just came to town and decided to use their money to change zoning laws and extend their rich asshole way of living they’d have riots. I’m not being over dramatic when I say my town would be on the news.
We’re not bad people we just don’t want our quiet bayou town to be gentrified and the fact that the pates are writing the pogue vs kook thing as “misunderstood poor people living paycheck to paycheck who are wrongfully labeled as thugs vs rich assholes who treat the pogues like shit and get away with it cause they have money and money = no morals” pisses me the fuck off. It’s almost like the Pates are incapable of anything more than an elementary school comprehension of good vs bad.
I firmly believe that the pogues should be allowed to be more violent, they should feel more angry. But they don’t cause in the pates eyes anger and violence is morally wrong and the pogues being doormats to the rich assholes means that they’re the morally correct ones.
