                     if it wasn’t an actual slap to the face,  it was a metaphorical one.  mouth hanging open slightly,  hands outward as if to convey the ‘what the fuck’ feeling that hit him.  until finally —   ❝ what the fuck? ❞   jj was finally able to verbalize as he looked after her while she turned to walk away from him.   ❝ fine.  then i’ll never act like i give a shit ever again.  how’s that? ❞    he spat,  hating that a nice gesture from him  (  for once  )  was met with such a dismissal.
