i find it soooooo entertaining that everyone thinks the holy peony is like. actually magic and holy and shit. like no! that was just the flower auri took out of the ratlands when they were time-teleported there like two years before they would even go there, and when they woke up they had no idea what happened but they had a flower so their boyfriend helped them make it everlasting. it's not magical outside of the time travel shenanigans and the everlasting thing. it's just that their favorite flower is peonies and they found some and accidentally brought it back and so they kept it because it's pretty. and then brought it back when they died and went to the ratlands for good. and now everyone thinks it's magic because in their delirious godly-fucked-up state they said it was holy (meaning, this reminds me of my lover and my old life so i will cling to it forever) and everyone thought it was powerful so they played along and eventually it's true meaning faded to a distant memory and maybe now even they think it's truly magical, because what else could keep that dreamlike emotion in their mind even when their memories are gone and everything is hell. and when vari sends them another flower after they begin exchanging letters, does the original keep its meaning? so maybe it is truly magic, if only because it is important to someone somewhere, because it holds the scent of the love and the hope and the lightning and the comfort of death and because someday when they have loved someone else and lost that one too, they can find another flower tucked between the pages of the letter from the one they lost first
