OK SO UHHHHH. Cop and robber. Childhood friends turned enemies and neither of them ever got over the crush they had on each other. Its genuinely kind of pathetic on both of their parts but can you blame them? They've re-ignited their relationship for the past 10 years or so, and its exclusively been hateful combat laced with mutually-recognized desire. If one dies at this point i'm pretty sure the other will eternally wander the earth, never to know peace again.
Since humanity is still scraping itself together from some rather unsavory extinction events and ongoing giant-animal troubles, and cross-continental travel is still only a generation old, you tend to get a lot of variety in how settlements handle their law enforcement. A lot of the older and more well-established colonies will have their own dedicated guards appointed by colony officials n whatnot, but the newer ones, such as the Paradise colony and its surrounding territories(where most of my characters live), are popping up like daisies in the new age of Fucking Around And Finding Out, and as such get more modern takes on the idea. Likewise, and ESPECIALLY around the eastern side of the continent(where Utopia, the most-technologically-developed colony cluster is doing god-knows-what with the laws of nature(relevant somehow i promise) and having a ball in shoving a block between its income classes), you're also seeing a severe uptick in organized crime. All-around things have been ramping up from simple farming communities and small-town troubles, and some people are cashing in.
Tarket is the local sheriff of Paradise. It's a real small (but real weird) fishing community, wedged right between 3 big neighboring major territories, one of those being the Utopian Megacity. The most action it sees is being a pit-stop for folks on their way to said Utopia, but nonetheless, the town's doing pretty good.
Tarky is, quite possibly, one of the ODDEST PEOPLE in that damn town. The eccentricity is unmatched. They're a twitchy grinning maniac with a predisposition for accidental slapstick, but GOD do they take their job seriously! They're a great fit for it, too, but it's not recommended to get within 12 feet of them if you value your hearing. (they're heavily excitable.) They've got a bottomless well of love in their big-fat heart for the people of their continent/hometown, and makes sure to let it shine every second of the day. A very fitful sort, too, they can't STAND being cramped inside for too long. That could be in-part though to the fact they're not built very small-room-friendly, but they prefer to think of it as "HAVING A GREAT NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT THE CITIZENS OF PARADISE ARE DOING SPLENDIDLY, INDEED!" Though they're quite a frightening fucking sight for any miscreants that ARE in-town, (Being over 7 feet tall and actively yelling in someone's ear with a manic smile will do that,) they've actually got a real wimpy sense of punishment, and idealistic sense of justice. If they manage to catch a criminal, there's a good chance they'll just start holding an honest to god therapy session in the holding cell area. They're not licensed, but it *works* on occasion, so nobody really wants to stop them...
Despite the hiccups, they're a well-loved pillar of steel-clad strength in their community. Unless Aym's in town. In which case theyre punching drywall.
that bat's constant heavy smoke-haze miasma can always be felt before he is revealed... And what a reveal it is. Theatrical, merciless, and armed with an array of magical firearms, this suave motherfucker likes to drop by her hometown once in a while, to lay low whenever the world gets too cold, and maybe show her sticks a new trick or two... Aym is always testing the local authorities worth something NASTY. What a tough nut to crack!!
Self-proclaimed to be the "Ultimate Thief" Of Situun, Aym has dipped her thumb in every Mafia pie that the east coast has to offer. Formed a lot of enemies that way, and even a few stray connections, trailed along like lambs behind him, but moreso than that, enough hoarded riches to classify her as her own treasury. She'd be a genuinely frightening force to reckon with, if she didn't undercut her own credibility every step of the way... Aym's temper is absurd. Flashy, extravagant, and frankly a little over-dramatic, and even a little bit maniacally trigger-happy, once you peel past the nicotine-crusted layer of smooth tongued fluff, Aym is as easily-flustered as it gets! Fucks sake, her idea of laying low in Paradise involves an innocent, EXTREMELY public bank heist now and again(though noticeably, with not so much as a scratch on anyone involved). His thick lisp and disney-villain-esque threats are a little laughable, but make no mistake; despite his funny way of acting and going about his goals, Aym's dual pistols spare nobody. (except the poor and defenseless)(but don't point that out to her unless you want to be strung by your ankles and tied to a tree)(she's serious about that)
And oh, what a lonely life they both lead... I wonder if that's in any part due to that aforementioned childhood friendship. Surely not!!!!!!
It must be so embittering, that the only person to truly *get* you is such a WEIRDO, and also on the other side of the law. If only that one event didn't happen, yknow? Things would be a lot simpler.
Despite the vocal hatred Aym boasts for Tarket, and the proudly-declared promises Tarket makes regarding the justice that will soon come to Aym, they seem to have been in a stalemate for the past decade. Is it because their power is evenly matched, or do they simply want to let it go on, even for just a little while longer? Hey, nobody *else* wants to take on Aym, that dude's reputation is nuts.
So here they are. Beckoning each other in from the cold, and both too proud to leave their icebox. A bit tragic innit
