Key information:

Born in Cheshire, England, in 1875. Had a brother, Henry, who was five years older than them.

Met Ashley when they were both in their teens; they had a brief romantic relationship, but it ultimately fell apart. (It was for the best – both are aromantic; Exoskeleton saw it primarily as an act of rebellion against their parents, while Ashley was trying to ‘cure’ his own aromanticism)

After Henry’s death (when he was 27 and they were 22), ran away, stealing some of Henry’s old clothes and changing their first name to Alexander, the name Ashley helped them choose. They hoped both to avenge Henry’s death, and to find a way to escape.

After tracing Henry’s killer to the Neath, changed their surname to Exoskeleton (in a panic, realising it might be best to come up with a new one lest their parents come looking for them); realised they were non-binary now that they were aware of it as an option.

Eventually, tracked down the one who ordered Henry’s death – and would have killed it, had it not made them an offer. In the moment, they were weak. They accepted it. They have Henry back now, at least. Though he’s not… the same.

Currently works at the University, offering assistance to entomologists. In the process of gaining formal qualifications as they never got any official qualifications on the Surface

Can easily form a positive acquaintanceship with them by talking to them about beetles. More difficult to form a deeper friendship as they are relatively closed-off.

Loveless, non-partnering aromantic, which makes being in the Neath a bit awkward at times.

My very first OC, he is very important to me. Information under the cut! OH MY GOD IT GOT REALLY LONG IM SORRY.

The briefest synopsis I can manage (and oh my god am I skipping so much):

Mark Vela was born on January 8, 1969 to a mechanic and a Sunday School teacher in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He eventually gained a passion for history, moved to Detroit (escaping homophobic parents) and successfully pursued a Doctorate in Roman History. Though he was only ever able to land an adjunct position, things were going pretty well - he had his own apartment, a boyfriend, a few friends, and general stability. It was 1997. And then some monster decided he needed a new pawn to spy on his enemies.

His then-boyfriend, Sampson, was ghouled and used to spy on Mark, giving information to his future domitor before he was to be embraced. In the fall of 1999, Mark got fed up with Sampson's suspicious behavior and so followed Sampson after work one night, and found him getting his blood drained by a vampire.

When Mark regained consciousness, it was New Year's Eve. He was already dead, with over a month of time missing. He was introduced to the Camarilla, and to the vampire who claimed to be his sire, Julius. Welcome to the year 2000, Mark.

To keep a very, very, long story short, he had a very stressful introduction to unlife in Detroit, including witnessing a coup in the court, infiltrating the Sabbat, war with the Sabbat, and dealing with the fallout of accidentally ghouling Sampson (that is its whole own story), yet managed to find the will to attempt to escape Julius despite the blood bond.

While Mark did make true progress in his goals of freedom, he was helped along secretly by Julius's centuries-old rival Gaius, whose plans for Julius's downfall were fast approaching. In short, Mark's rebellion was just a small part of Gaius's plan to take down Julius once and for all.

Gaius succeeded; and therefore Mark did too. In 2001, free of his blood bond to Julius, Mark was free to continue managing the territory he had gained in his service to Julius, pursue his own wants, and he also managed to land himself a boyfriend, a much older Tremere named Cassidy, who deserves his own post.

For a time Mark remained in the Detroit Camarilla, but disaster did happen around 2004; Mark never knew the details, but out of character some Pentex/Wyrm/Traditions/Technocracy stuff. Meant for a mage chronicle, not a vampire one! In that incident the Detroit chantry was destroyed, Cassidy lost his home, and the pair escaped Detroit and moved out to Halifax Canada.

Cassidy did reveal his ambitions to Mark-Golconda. After spending some time recovering from all that occurred in Detroit, Cassidy made contact with someone who promised more info about Golconda in 2011, and so the two return to the USA.

Mark doesn't actively seek Golconda as ardently as Cassidy does, but he will. His story is still being written.

Touchstones and important characters related to him:

TOUCHSTONE: Sampson Renault: His boyfriend, then ex, then ghoul shortly after Mark's embrace (on accident!) While he helped Mark try to escape Julius, their relationship was never the same after Mark admitted that he had killed someone. He left to get as far away from vampires as he could after Julius's death. ST says he currently runs a bed and breakfast in Oregon. GOOD FOR HIM. Even though Mark thinks of him often, Sampson will never contact him again. Conviction: To remain human, I have to be able to let go. Here's some art.

TOUCHSTONE: Dr. Armatto: His Thesis advisor, beloved teacher, father figure. Unfortunately now believes Mark is dead. Conviction: Knowledge should be collected and kept safe, as because of it, humanity will continue to grow and improve. TOUCHSTONE: Kenny: His first boyfriend/first love, now he's kind of an asshole but they try to stay in contact occasionally. Very openly gay despite the time period. Mark has a soft fond spot for him despite everything. Conviction: True love is real.

Important character: JP: Unknown to both of them, he's Mark's actual sire. They think of each other like brothers; their actual relationship is very deep. He essentially had Mark's position before repeated failures caused Julius to lock him up and no longer allow him to work independently. Julius sent him to assist Mark. The two plotted to escape Julius together. Via Tremere shenanigans they have both been inside each other's head. Between that and the shared trauma, they're as close as two people can be. He wants to be a marine biologist now that he escaped Julius.

Important character: Cassidy: Cassidy met Mark as a fellow Tremere in Detroit. Cassidy has been around for about 150 years and is clinging to humanity, seeking Golconda in secret. He assisted Mark in his very dangerous research of escaping blood bonds in exchange for Mark helping him track down a Salubri. The two found a shared love of movies and a rare friend and the relationship deepened from there. The tension was left unspoken and unremarked until after Mark escaped Julius. Then they soon started dating officially. Mark helped him go back to humanity 7 instead of 6 because Cassidy had been very out of touch with humanity. Yayyy. :)

Insight (*) Saw through his college student's bullshit first, and now other kindred Firearms (**) One of his exs was into guns, and he kept the habit up for awhile. Serves him well in his unlife. Technology (**) Mark attempted to stay ahead of the curve in life in regards to technology for his research and it keeps him up-to-date now that he's dead. Persuasion (**) Gay Charisma [he doesn't have much but its there, ok]. Occult (**) Mark researched Roman occultism for his doctorate - and now he's a Tremere. Funny how that works out. Leadership (***) He keeps his cool and people can tell - and he's used to teaching large groups. This is a skill he isn't even super aware tha the has. But he's a damn good teacher. Awareness (Specialty: Instinct) (***) Mark is a paranoid motherfucker. You can probably guess why. Drive (***) He street raced in high school! This is his only Cool Trait. °❀ At only fifteen years old, Chiemi Nagomi already accomplished the title of Dusk Hashira. Everyone always saw it as a huge achievement or even a blessing to be born with this natural talent, however, she revealed to think otherwise when she suddenly retired while still in her prime days. When her comrades asked what caused her to quit, Chiemi never gave an elaborated answer and instead replaced it with a hollow “I just got tired of it”. It’s not exactly a lie, but it’s clear that there’s more to it that she refuses to develop any further.

°❀ Chiemi opened up way more through the years after “leaving” the corps—not fully, she enjoys to pass by to see her friends—, a total contrast to how she used to be. She always tried to look as professional as possible, actually treating it like a job to the point where she wouldn’t act any friendlier to anyone in missions, not even her closest friends. Now that she doesn’t have to worry about it, she’s back to being herself regardless of the time, playful and odd yet very compassionate.

°❀ Since the very beginning, Chiemi always struggled to talk about her own feelings, which is quite ironic when she’s so good helping out other people with theirs. The few times she actually did so it was completely against her will, when she couldn’t keep it in and lashed out. It’s not often, but when it happens, no one (other than her partner and a few exceptions) want to stay nearby.

I finally filled these out for my lil criminal 💚

Explanations & more info (ramblings) + her presets below the cut for anyone interested.

✧ Family ✧

Does not talk about it. Will either be evasive about her history or outright lie about it if asked. An only child born to parents who abandoned her. Hadn’t spoken or seen them since, and has no idea whether they're alive or not. Never fitting into the wizarding world or muggle society, she always dreamed of a better life for herself - the life she was supposed to live at Hogwarts.

Struggling to take care of herself after being abandoned by her family, she resorted to petty crime to survive, then more often upon discovering she was rather good at it. At age 15, her first accidental magic outburst involved a chase with authorities after pressing her luck one too many times, resulting in Fig finding her on the streets of London, panicking after she'd suddenly turned a policeman into a chicken. Professor Dad Fig took her in during the summer before term began at Hogwarts.

✧ Patronus ✧

Some associations with crows: gregarious, intelligent, creative problem-solvers, mysterious, deceptive, mischievous, manipulative, intuitive, and adaptable. Symbolic of community and loyalty, change and transformation, magic and the supernatural. Conflicting interpretations as harbingers of death or omens of fate, destiny, and good luck. They never forget a face, and will reward those who help them or may punish those who harm them. I also couldn't resist the connection between crows' habit of stealing and collecting shiny objects, and of course a flock of crows is called a Murder. 

✧ Classes ✧

She loves learning magic now that she's got the opportunity. Strives to do well at Hogwarts and wants to impress her professors and peers. Open-minded about magic of all kinds.

Charms is her absolute favorite, the most useful and enjoyable form of magic for her. Defense follows closely, as she's got an innate gift for dueling and developed a bit of an ego about it - especially enjoys teasing Sebastian about kicking his ass. Ever pragmatic, she also knows how important the subject is and wants to add to her repertoire of spells.

It's not her strongest subject naturally, but she loves Potions. She can follow a recipe well and works hard at it. While she finds Garreth's experiments interesting and doesn't mind stealing for him, for her own self-preservation she doesn't ever sit at his station, nor will she risk Sharp's wrath again by stealing from his office. Everyone knows she is Sharp's favorite student by the year's end, though he denies it.

History isn't uninteresting to her - it’s just Professor Binns is too boring for her to stay awake through class.

✧ Personality ✧

😉 Charismatic and persuasive, comes across as highly confident (faking it til she makes it.) She isn't shy about walking up to talk to someone she finds interesting, loves spending time with a small group of friends, and prefers a partner in crime on her adventures. That said, she is quite independent and needs plenty of alone time to think and recharge.

🧠 She prefers efficient, not lazy. She's highly active with her chosen activities and will take the lead naturally, but it has to be worth her while for her to put in the effort. She'll also take nearly any advantage given to her, especially in high-stakes situations.

💁🏻‍♀️ She wishes she were stylish and tidy, but it doesn’t come naturally and she hasn’t got the time (would rather get the extra 10 minutes of sleep in the mornings.) She starts the day looking relatively put-together, but you'll usually see her looking disheveled from running around, waistcoat askew, hair coming loose, boots dirty, possibly a bit banged up from her adventuring. Leaves half-drunk cups of coffee lying around the RoR and laundry on her dormitory floor. Handwriting is atrocious, she uses an enchanted quill to make her essays legible.

😾 Not that grouchy but can't say she's very nice, either. She isn't taking on extra tasks just out of the kindness of her heart - she needs to get paid or receive something else in exchange. Snarky and sarcastic, somewhat selfish, mocks/teases/messes with people (told Zenobia she’d keep her gobstones, then said jk lol, and gave them back.) Anger issues rage blackouts when pushed to her limit. She's got soft spots though - especially for animals/beasts, orphans, and freckles. Will do anything for her closest friends even if she gives them a hard time.

🤔 Generally weighs the risks of what she's getting herself into before acting. Stealthy and strategic, usually likes to silently petrify a few enemies to even the odds before taking on a group. She's prioritizing protecting herself and her friends rather than foolishly charging into unnecessary danger, balancing out her more reckless companions. Again, if one of her loved ones is in danger she won’t hesitate to dive in and help them.

😏 Mischievous, jokes a lot, a bit silly. Likes breaking rules. She's made many a daring escape with a smile on her face, will turn to her mates and laugh together once they've made it out alive. Taunts and goads her opponents in duels to throw them off. While very capable of deep thoughts and feelings, she covers hurt with humor and doesn’t often let it show.

🏃🏻‍♀️Athletic. Fast runner and climber, she regularly outpaces Sebastian “out-of-breath” Sallow on their outings. An evasive and agile fighter, swiftly dodging all over the place before striking. Quick on a broom, joins the Quidditch team in sixth year as Keeper (and acknowledges the irony here.) Has her clumsy moments when she's not paying attention or had too many Butterbeers, accidentally breaking a vase at the bottom of the stairs in the Slytherin common room on more than one occasion.

✧ Extras ✧

Scent: green apple and lilac

Bisexual who flirts with everyone, to the point that it's hard to tell when she actually means it. No time to properly court anyone during fifth year but she has many fleeting fancies and won't readily admit to real feelings. All of this inevitably leads to confusion on all sides.

Goes insane for the food at Hogwarts after years of barely scraping by, eating stolen food and scraps. Always snacking to keep her energy up with how much running around she does. If she misses a meal, something is very wrong. 

Funny (at least she thinks so) and uses humor as a coping mechanism.

Loves cats. Pets all the cats.

Loves puns and will give a genuine laugh at a particularly good one.

Constantly running late, much to the chagrin of all her friends.

Drinks like a fish and smokes an occasional cigarette. Swears like a sailor.

Likes to dance but isn't very good at it.

As Sharp says, Wiggenweld doesn't fix everything, so I imagine her gaining quite a few permanent scars over the course of her fifth year. Significant mentions are a cut brow courtesy of Rookwood and some burns on her body from Solomon.

After her hair was partially singed during the battle with Ranrok, she cut it short for a drastic change.

Girl is not doing very well after everything she went through, especially losing Fig. Not sleeping, not eating enough, and prone to thousand-yard stares. She will need time to heal, plus a lot of help from her new chosen family.

✧Future ✧

Ellie is very ambitious and she knows her strengths. She wants to live up to the reputation she's built for herself as a powerful witch, and wants to be known for more than what she went through in her fifth year. Taking time to make a name for herself as a Curse Breaker, she'll spend several years in the field before coming back to Hogwarts as Charms Professor when Ronen retires.
