That looks like one happy family, doesn't it? Meet the Cogmans- they lived in Cog Nation once, but they're such a kooky bunch that they didn't quite fit in with the crowd there, and have thus moved to Toontown Central. Let's greet them one-by-one:

Clyde Cogman - In Cog nation, he was the nurse's assistant at the charter school his daughter went to, St. Gearadine's School for Toon Youth. He wasn't very good at the nursing stuff, but he was great with the kids, he always knew what to do to make them laugh even if they came in bawling. For a cog, he's unusually jolly- maybe he's got his wires crossed, maybe he fell and hit his head- either way, he's an oddball, and because of that, the charter school was the only place in Cog Nation he could really work at. Now that he lives in Toontown, he works as a clown performing at parties for kids, grownups, and even the elderly- for toons, no one is ever too old to enjoy clowns. Everyone loves his shtick, and this makes Clyde incredibly happy because he felt like he never had a place cog society, but now he's finally found his people.

Clark Cogman - When he lived in Cog Nation with his husband Clyde, he worked as a courtroom sketch artist. He was always fond of drawing and wanted to become an artist, but his parents frowned upon the idea of him pursuing the arts, so court sketches were the next best thing. When he moved to Toontown, Clyde became the main breadwinner of the house from his clown gig, and this gave Clark the chance to finally chase his dream. Now, sometimes he'll go around different playgrounds and draw up quick portraits of passersby for a cheap price, but most of the time he's a stay-at-home papa, taking care of his daughter Constance and sketching her whenever he gets the chance so that he can get better at drawing toons. He likes doing candid portraits of her, being able to capture all the little moments of childhood wonder, getting to see his little girl laugh and play and grow up- those portraits are worth more than any old picture he could ever take.

Constance Cogman - The last member of this little family, but definitely not the least! Energetic and ever curious, she never misses out on the opportunity to learn- she'll ask you question after question about anything and everything, ranging from what your favorite dinosaur is to how the world and the entire universe started. She also loves meeting new people; when she sees someone she finds interesting, she'll just walk up to them and start talking their ear off till they can't stand it anymore. She went to school at St. Gearadine's when she lived in Cog Nation, but now she attends the Toontown schoolhouse, and between all the books there and whatever Clark brings home from the Library, she's always got something to read. She loves reading even more than playing, and she even writes her own little stories from time to time. Her absolute favorite subject is history, so her favorite things to write about are historical fiction and alternate history. And y'know what? She's not half bad at it! She's got quite a bright future ahead as an author.

And we’re back with swamp princess, Constance, and her struggle to get to Waterdeep

“Gods!” Constance shouted, shifting forward to bang a fist against the wall nearest to the front of the carriage. “Watch it, will you?”

Her hand came up to rub away the bump that had surely been left from knocking her head against the wooden wall more times than she could count. The road to Waterdeep was a less than pleasant one.

The journey began with her being questioned by one of the hags about her venturing out before the sun had risen.

“Oh, just, off in search of an eye or two. Keep up the supply and whatnot,” she had told Marjorie. “You know this city is littered with bodies ripe for the plucking!”

The hag grunted, eyeing her suspiciously but moving on, most likely hunting down an orphaned child to eat or turning some poor soul into a woodland creature.

The carriage ride wasn’t much better. The cobblestone roads were less than comfortable and Constance found herself gripping onto the seat beneath her, nails digging in and teeth gritting. She didn’t think it could get worse, but she had spoken too soon.

Halfway to the city and suddenly the carriage tilted, sending her to the other side and slamming her shoulder. The horse was spooked and continued on for another five minutes. When they finally stopped, the door below her swung open and she tumbled out, dust billowing under her.

Apparently the driver had failed to inspect his carriage because a wheel had wriggled loose and rolled into a field off the side of the road.

When all was fixed, Constance stormed back in. She steadied her breaths and rested her head against the side, hoping to sleep the next few days away.

Then there she was - sleep deprived, suffering with a headache, and wanting to have a long talk with a wizard about his carriage choices.

A lot's going on at the Toontown museum today. Two fieldtrips, one from the schoolhouse and one from the embassy, happened to intersect on the same day, making double the fun! The two teachers, two old friends might I add, waste no time in having a chat and catching up after so many years. While they're distracted, the students take it upon themselves to tour the place and learn about all the artifacts. Some are very eager to learn, so little Constance takes the opportunity to talk about all the history facts she's learned in school and from the books she's read. Others, however, are far less eager to learn, such as Sparky, who just wants to joke around and pull pranks on everyone. It looks like everyone is crowded around a journal, and the page it's opened to reads as follows:

"8/26/20XX I'm starting to wonder if I've gone crazy. In the beginning, I was told so many times that I was, but now I hear it almost never. Maybe they know it'll just go right over my head. Maybe, and I hate to think about it, but maybe they really are scared of me. And the funniest part, or the saddest perhaps, is that I don't really blame them. We all had a big meeting today, and when I told them my latest plans, Lowden stood up and said, "You must be outta your mind, ya' hear me! YOU'VE GONE CRAZY!" or something like that. I was so mad I can't really remember what happened. All I remember is that I grabbed him by the neck and I threatened to- I can't even write it down, I'm so ashamed of myself. I guess I really am crazy. Maybe I've gone too far with all this, but me and everyone else here are too far down this rabbit hole to get out now. I have to keep pushing forward, for the good of Toontown and every single last toon living there."

Poor lad doesn't like it when people see him in such a sorry state... No worries though, the demonstration will be over in just a minute!

The definition of a "child" is very different between Cog Nation and Toontown.

To cogs, a "child" is really just an heir, it's something that's owned and brought up to inherit their parents' wealth. Of course, you can't do this with an actual child, so most cogs are born (or in this case built) as adults. Up until recently, ownership of children was a privilege reserved for the very richest of cogs who could pay to dodge the draft, but now that the war's over and everyone has more time on their hands, more cogs have been partaking in the act of parenthood, even if they can't offer much in inheritance. Still though, most cogs opt for adult children because it costs far too much money to start with a child and then have to constantly upgrade its body to reflect different stages of life.

Toon children, on the other hand, are actual children. If you want your child drawn by a professional painter, it'll cost you quite the pretty penny, but since toon children can grow up on their own, the initial cost is really the only major one. Besides, what's the point of being a parent if you can't do fun things with your kids? I'm talking throwing the football around, going to the park, tax evasion- all that jazz. The way toons see it, children aren't just something you have just to have them, they're something that ought to be cherished, and you can't cherish the time you have with your kids if they're already looking to move out when they're born.

Like I said before, mixed couples can argue and compete over what kind of child they want, but non-mixed couples can still have children different from themselves. Cog couples might want toon children so they can add some silliness to their life, and toon couples might want cog children because they provide stability in such a crazy, whacky world. There's no wrong way to start a family, all that matters is everyone loves each other.

Dear Constance/Tape Recorder duo Synopsis

When her ex Friend Sage Suddenly disappears leaving behind a disaster of an apartment Constance Finds a mysterious tape recorder with recordings by Sage detaling the investigation she had been going into the mysterious happenings in heaven corp. unfortunately it’s only one of a set and she must now investigate and find the other tapes to uncover the truth of the company and her friends alleged death
