1) Chapter 1
“Sure. I’m not your best friend. I’m his evil clone.” Leo jokes. Daphne lightly knocks her elbow against his arm—mostly from frustration—and he retaliates with the same attack.
“Ow!” Daphne exclaimed anyway, even if it didn’t really hurt her.
“You hit me first!”
“Valdez, Versoza!” Coach Hedge yelled form the front. For such a small man, he could be heard just about anywhere. The two stops, quickly snapping their attention up front. “Problem back there?”
i constantly think about how daphne would react to actually meeting percy bc i havent gotten to that part of that story and i just hm
her hyperempathy would have a fucking trip around percy. i picture him as a sweet boy, i do but got look at how much trauma this boy carries. hes feeling everything and nothing all at once, coming close to him without...preparing herself is basically like accidentally stepping into a lake in the middle of the night. shes taut like a bowstring around him, walking around in egg shells and careful with her words and the placement of her attention.
she doesnt like him, not at first anyway.
he was...sort of the same as jason, she thinks. powerful, destined for something way too big for a bunch of sixteen year olds. natural born leaders, the both of them. though, where jason was empty (way back then, when his memories were stolen and he sat in that school bus unassuming), percy is...full.
she knows what to feel towards jason. even back then, she had an idea, despite being wary of him too.
percy?
gods.
she never knew what to feel. she didn’t know what to say. percy thought about his friends. daphne could feel the overwhelming trust and loyalty and love he poured for his friends. the determination and anger and contempt he held for the gods and the other beings putting them to the test. it was always loud. she could feel it from across argo ii.
she doesn’t like him. she doesn’t hate him, either.
daphne is absolutely terrified of him.
everybody, in a way, knows what percy can do. he was the golden boy in camp--daphne and her friends heard plenty of it. during their small time there. even if they crown him a hero. a boy who was granted immortality and openly denied it at the face of said gods. a boy who saved the world.
sometimes though,
daphne catches wind of what he will do for his friends. for people that he’s only recently met. and...thats what scares her.
