Corvin has terrible eyesight, so he relies on his hearing. Rose has been living in Glitnir's Hall long enough for him to realize he can't hear her walk (she's very sneaky!), but when he's tired or distracted he forgets and defaults to thinking he should be able to hear people approach.
Trolls are obligate meat-eating monsters who frequently target human travellers. Anyone who spends any amount of time travelling generally has a story or two about someone going "missing" or a convoy being attacked by a hungry troll.
Moon cultists have a very healthy fear of their Goddess due to Her unpredictability. Cultists also don't know which of her Aspects (personalities, or "faces") they will be dealing with; the Moon Goddess has many.
Sometime in the future of my story, Corvin gets permission from his Queen to travel around with Simon. But he gets shrunken, and his magic device (his bracelet that lets him see better) doesn't shrink with him, so he just loops it over his shoulder.
Corvin is an atheist, and Simon is religious, which I think is a funny combination. Sometimes religious people forget how their beliefs sound to a non-believer.
Here is a master post of references for my OC, Simon. :)
Character Description: Simon is a Daneenri, a member of a mostly-deceased race of winged people. Daneenri have multiple bounties on them by different factions, so Simon has lived most of his life with great care to hide his identity. Raised as a moon cultist by his grandfather, the life and practices of his religion made it easier to avoid risky situations. After his grandfather's death when Simon was only 9 years old, Simon has been living on his own and taking care of himself, paying his way with the profession his grandfather had taught him - tailoring. Things he could not purchase, he would trade for. Simon continued to travel as a child, staying as a guest in several different homes, before he found a town with no seamstress/tailor. Simon decided to stay and started his own shop.
Moon Cultists: known as followers of the moon, they're a scattered religious group with minimal religious architecture. They believe the moon goddess has multiple forms, correlating to the different faces she shows to mortals. Different cultists may pray predominantly to one "form" (or face) of the goddess over others. Moon cultists are divided into two main groups - the ones who wander to experience and pray at various holy sites, and the ones who settle in an area. The ones who wander make up the larger portion, so there is very little religious architecture (temples, paintings, sculpture) to their goddess. There are no religious icons or holy symbols per se, but most cultists carry a book to record observations about the weather, stars and moon.
Moon cultists tend to dress in dark robes and cover everything except hands/face. They are usually easily identifiable because of the black and white kohl they use to mark their faces. Part of their religion involves observing the stars, so it's common to see cultists outside at night, recording celestial events or praying to the moon. Many cultists practice a form of astrology, using the pattern in the stars to predict events. Cultists tend to be superstitious, paying attention to portents or signs. Although most non-cultists don't necessarily get along with cultists, it's common to pay or trade for a "reading" of ones' future.
The authoritarians in the moon cult display their position by dressing in red (clothing, fingernail polish or red kohl on their faces). Normal cultists are forbidden from adorning themselves with red or allowing red to be on their bodies.
Likes: taking walks in the woods by himself (where he might eventually be able to stretch out his wings in secret); mead, pastries
Dislikes: being touched (handshakes, back pats and hugs are all off-limits; someone might feel his wings through his clothing by accident). Flirting is off-limits because flirting often leads to touch.
Fears: dogs, having his true identity discovered
