Hey so I found out that Dana's tattoos are canonically from her sabbatical that she took in Asia at some point before the show's timeline and costume designers helped Katherine come up with them. They say:

"In order to heal the future, we must heal the present moment.” in Vietnamese, and the other is based on the patron saint of nurses and says "Live holy, the present moment"

More Canon facts about Dana from Katherine Lanasa herself:

Benji is canonically an electrician

Dana's father died when she was sixteen

Her mother died in her early twenties

She volunteered at the hospital to gain a sense of belonging after that, and never really addressed her trauma

On Dana's days off she likes to play poker

And a really beautiful quote about Dana's feelings on Emma:
