edenfalling replied to your post:Speaking of homicidal uteruses, how do human women in this universe handle such matters on long space voyages? Practically, I hope.
Wouldn’t it be simpler to use hormonal birth control to skip the whole mestruation business? Implants, pills without a “now you bleed” week, shots, whatever. No blood, no pain, no waste. :)
Yeah, definitely! It would be an option for a lot of people, and I imagine there would be fewer risks than there are today. I was just answering specifically about if someone started menstruating while they were on a spaceship.

Haha I was sort of considering this earlier. Obvious TW for blood and menstruation.
It depends what kind of space voyage! Are they in a transport from point A to point B that will probably only last a couple months? Is it a long-range military ship that might not see friendly territory for up to a year? Or are we talking about one of the generation/colony fleets where people might go their whole lives without stepping foot on solid ground?
Transport ships are more likely to use relays—stations that power massive wormholes. These stations are obviously big trade hubs with lots of support. So people in transport vessels are more likely to have trash pods that they empty at relay stations or dump out in space (either to burn up on entry in an atmosphere or, if they’re assholes, just let their refuse float).
Generation fleets and permanent space stations have full processing facilities that handle biological waste. Space stations, however, are usually near a planet. So they can afford to dump trash and bring in new resources. Generation ships can’t go through most relays. They absolutely have to recycle everything. In the case of menstruation, they would have to use recyclable materials in their pads/tampons or other reusable products. Maybe some kind of space magic tampon that doesn’t leak or kill you.
The military ship is more difficult. They can’t really pile up trash and dump it to the same degree that the ship on the four month trip can, but they also can’t devote space to a massive recycling facility. Water and air recycling, definitely, but that’s about it. Reusable products, again, would be really handy. That way all that the ship has to deal with is water purification. The less material that they have to put in a trash pod the better. In some ways the options are better here than on the generation ship. Someone on a military vessel can choose their own preferred kind of blood absorber/holder/what have you. Bring it aboard when you’re stationed and just make sure you don’t leave it out or dirty when inspection comes around. Generation ships are limited by what merchant vessels bring them and what little they can produce. So if you live in a gen fleet and really want a diva cup but all that’s on the market are cloth pads, you better get used to the idea of washing your uterine lining out of cloth.
Are there going to be more drawings/info of ur oc trolls? I really like them so far :)
Thank you, Anon! There may well be. Drawings happen whenever I feel up to it, which isn't that often recently. Most of the info I've posted is in response to asks, I think.
I should update the OC info on here to include the newer ones at least. I try to limit the number of side characters to what I think is necessary, but they're probably still confusing to some people.
Feynaz + Dremra: what do you make of your current circumstances?

Sollux: So are you going to need to have someone check the inside of the Human's ship for some poor bastard wired into the engines before you go to them for help, or have you just not thought about asking them to help you with your little satellite project yet? I mean, they have a spaceship-even if their systems are completely incompatible, they might be willing to fly you up to get direct hardware access.
