im about to ask a terrible question. Who is that purple boy i like his vibe
hiiii annie. i will tell you about my purple boy with a few important forewarnings:
don't watch mha just to meet him. he appears for the first time in season 2 and then basically not again until season 5. i stopped watching after that but according to the wiki he's not at all in season 6, barely in season 7 and appears again for a few eps at the end of season 8.

THAT SAID. even though he is a pretty minor side character he is a fan favourite just bc of his excellent vibes. without further ado, i will answer the question of
who is the purple boy?
shinsou hitoshi is a student in the general studies stream at UA academy. (the hero school in mha) (there's uhhhhh the business stream, general stream, and hero stream iirc). his quirk (superpower) is brainwashing: if he asks someone a question, and they respond to it, he can take control of their body.
because of his quirk, he was always treated poorly by his peers growing up. everyone told him he had a "villain's quirk" and that he was destined to be a villain. i'm pretty sure that people stopped talking to him entirely out of fear of being brainwashed. despite this, however, all he's ever wanted is to be a hero and help people.
he tried to get into the hero stream at UA, but the entrance exam was geared towards people with more "physical" powers, and thus he was placed in the general stream. we first meet him during a school tournament, which he's entered in order to challenge members of the hero stream in hopes of getting in.
though he doesn't do as well as he hoped at the tournament, the teacher of one of the hero classes, aizawa shota, takes an interest in him.
aizawa sees a lot of himself in shinsou, because he too doesn't really have a "physical" quirk. (his quirk is that he can cancel out others' quirks for as long as he can keep his eyes open between blinks). to help himself out in combat, he uses these "binding cloths" (as seen around his neck) that he can weild to subdue his opponents. he starts training hitoshi to use them as well.
later on, he invites shinsou to take part in the hero students' training camp. shinsou introduces himself all like "im not here to make friends >:[" and the hero class is like. hiiiii shinsou we all want to be your friend we think you're so cool. in this arc he also gets a voice modulator to make his voice sound different for more effective use of his quirk!
this arc is in season 5. it's soooooo much fun and there's so much good shinsou content. and at the end he finally gets into the hero course 😭🥹 my son

ouyghghj. if you couldn't tell, im literally such a sucker for characters who are outcasts and weird (which says absolutely nothing about me at all). shinsou's determination and committment to being a hero despite everything is so inspiring to me and i love him..... oughgh
i also really like that even though he has like. the morals and motivations of a hero, his personality is very sarcastic and dry. he acts confident because he needs to in order for people to take him seriously, but then there are so many moments where you can see a softer side of him when people show him genuine care. and he's always shocked by it bc he really doesn't expected to be treated with kindness. oughghjhhjgjgh aizawa personally taking him under his wing and the hero classes welcoming him with open arms,,,,, finally he is loved! he finds his people and he is loved!!!!!!! fuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i love the similarity in his final hero costume and aizawa's. father and son right there. aizawa is also quite sarcastic and dry. theyre literally father and sonnnnnnnnn urghrgrh <-sounds of me coughing up blood
i also like a character with eyebags. #relatable. ouuuughghghghh he is my son. he is like a pet cat to me. i say this all the time about him but i am literally picking him up under the armpits and swinging him back and forth. fuuuuuuck maybe i really should rewatch the training camp arc.......
