She sat on the rock facing the ocean, not particularly caring that her dark hair was being pushed into her face. It made it feel as though the waters were beckoning her, drawing her towards the waves.
This is the only time she felt some peace. The smell of the sea filling her nose, the mist on her face and neck. Though the steadiness of the rock was nothing like the gentle sway of a ship, she spent enough time on docks for it to be enough.
So much had changed. She had lost her family, and if she were to tell anyone who would help her the truth she doubted they would believe her. So many already doubted her, didn’t believe in her. Those that did, they never bothered to do anything in return for her selflessness.
Her heart filled with sorrow as she felt the storm approaching. She would attend to her duties, even if it hurt her. She had a feeling she knew what would come with the storm, what it would entail. It hurt to think of what she might have to do, but she would sacrifice anything to keep the innocents safe. Not only was it right, but she swore to, and she was a woman of her word.
She heard footsteps approaching. The sand crunched quietly under their boots. She took a deep breath before opening her eyes, sights set on the horizon. Sheathing her sword and hefting her sword, she slid off the rock she sat on. She would make sure the people saw smooth seas again.
