Check out this awesome initiative I just discovered!
what3words is a very precise system which provides a 3-word address for every 3m square of space around the world, using GPS coordinates! This three-word address makes it much easier to say out loud your exact location when you are in an unaddressable area such as lost in the countryside.
#help999findyou is a movement to adopt what3words across emergency services in the whole of the UK. they will be able to give you very quick instructions on how to find your what3words address!
I thought this was awesome and immediately went digging around to find out more! if you would like to too, they are inactive on tumblr at @what3words but active on twitter and facebook, and they have a website and app (android/iphone). I suggest getting the app or familiarising yourself with the mobile website if you are in the UK, especially if you are in a rural area or enjoy hiking, biking, riding, etc!
Winslow Homer (1836-1910) - The Life Line, 1884, oil on canvas Homer painted this work after witnessing real-life coastal rescue operations along the Atlantic seaboard, especially those performed by the U.S. Life‑Saving Service, which eventually became the Coast Guard. In preparation for this painting, Homer sketched rescue drills, studied the equipment, and absorbed the atmosphere of storm‑battered coasts.
Lilliputian fishermen are having problems with a sea monster and someone decides Jacob could take it down. Turns out it's an octopus (and a great meal for him, much to the lilliputians' shock/disbelief)
Omg. Jacob could probably wade pretty far out into the water before he even needed to swim after anything, too. He would have to catch the would-be kraken and have someone tell him how he should cook it.
Of course, this has me thinking he’d have to save a ship at least once. Carrying the whole boat back to shore in his arms, or scooping little sailors out of the water. He’d be a hero!
