Can Scientists Train Machines to Listen for Marine Ecosystem Health?
Can you train machines to listen for marine ecosystem health as effectively as human researchers? That is what scientists asked during their SanctSound project, a multi-year effort to monitor underwater sound within the National Marine Sanctuary System.
The application of artificial intelligence, including machine learning, accelerates the analysis of large volumes of data, while greatly reducing cost. In the context of SanctSound, the idea is that it may be possible to teach machines to know which sounds are part of the usual chorus of a particular marine ecosystem, and which ones are anomalies (outside of the norm)!

Sanctuary Soundscape Monitoring Project
SanctSound is a four-year project, managed by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the U.S. Navy, to better understand underwater sound within national marine sanctuaries.
This story map invites you to take a tour of the places where this work is underway and introduces you to some of the questions this project seeks to answer in order to better understand and protect these special underwater places!

Relaxing Waves Ever - OCEAN SOUNDS - Sleep With Ocean Waves #oceansounds https://youtube.com/shorts/a5L6Is5BQdw
Is it good to sleep with ocean sounds? Yes, ocean sounds can be effective for promoting sleep for several reasons: Consistent Background Noise: Ocean sounds create a steady, rhythmic sound that can mask disruptive noises in the environment, helping to create a more calming atmosphere conducive to sleep.
