Thinking about him (bastard prince/naval officer!Cas gone pirate from the Ocean's Brawl universe.) Here's him standing in the rain towards the beginning of Harbor (which I swear I'll finish and post someday lol)

Summary: In a time of oppression, the Winchester brothers and their family of misfit pirates sail the seas attacking slave traders and offering the liberated passage to safe-havens, or–if they choose it–a home on the Impala as part of Team Free Will. 

Dean meets Castiel, a Naval Captain with orders to enlist him and his band of honorable sea rovers as privateers. Dean refuses, but they end up working together when Castiel offers his vessel as transport for some rescued slaves. Castiel, in turn, travels with Dean as collateral to ensure there is no foul play. 

Along the way, Castiel witnesses the horrors of slavery and begins to doubt his cause, even fighting alongside Dean against a French vessel–Castiel’s own people. Castiel comes to admire this wild crew and their kind hearts…falling for one man in particular.

Holding Hands in the Rain

For today’s prompt, have a sneak peek at some pirate boys...

For the Spn Stay At Home Challenge - Monday 7: Thunderstorm.

Word Count: 1471

Rating: Teen 

Summary: TFW gets caught in a storm on the way back to their ship while having a night out at port. There’s fun and games, kissing in the rain, and just...it’s fluff okay? This is a peek at Harbor (upcoming sequel to Ocean’s Brawl), but it won’t be confusing even if you haven’t read Ocean’s Brawl yet. All you need to know is that they’re pirates and that Castiel was originally a naval officer sent to enlist Dean and Sam as privateers, but ended up joining them instead.

Dean tripped out of the pub with his arm around Cas and Sam stepping out behind them. He looked up at the sky as he stepped onto the wooden porch. “Son of a bitch…”

Cas looked up next to him. “We’re going to get wet.”

Dean licked his lips. “The way you say it sounds fun.” He cut his eyes to Cas with a mischievous smile.

Sam groaned.

Cas just cocked his head.

Dean chuckled. “Never mind. He dropped his arm from Cas’s waist and put his hands on his hips, studying the sky. He grinned. “So...race you guys back to the ship?”

Cas laughed. His eyes crinkled as he looked at Dean. “What are you, twelve?”

“Yes, he is.” Sam answered next to him.

“Hey! ...maybe???”

Sam smirked, “Actually, you’re probably too much of an old man to beat me.”

“Okay, now look,” Dean jabbed a finger at Sammy’s chest, “old man or not, there’s no way I’m not faster than you.”

Sam smirked, “Having talked to your past partners, I’d say that part’s true.”

Dean’s mouth gaped. He sputtered and turned bright red. “You...you...you, shut up.”

Sam grinned and took off.

“Hey! That’s cheating!” He grabbed Cas by the hand and leapt off the porch, running down the road behind Sam. 

Okay, Sam had freakishly long legs. Dean blamed his tequila-addled brain for not remembering that. That, and only that, was the reason that halfway back to the ship, Dean dropped his hands to his knees and stopped to catch his breath, completely giving up.

Cas stopped next to him, also breathing heavily. “I don’t think this race was quite fair,” he mused.

Dean laughed. “Yeah, I forget I have a giraffe for a brother.”

“Hmm,” Cas pursed his lips for a moment, “I was referring to both of our recently recovered states.” He raised an eyebrow at Dean.

“Ah...yeah, that too, I guess.” Right. Cas had recently been shot in the hip and Dean’s leg had almost been torn off by a shark. It had been a few months and they’d both healed up pretty well, but neither of them had yet quite lost the slight limp that night had left them with. “Not sure how I forgot that little factor.”

“Probably the tequila,” Cas nodded to him seriously.

“Ha, probably…” He turned and pulled Cas against him, speaking against his lips. “Bet I’m faster than you though.”

Cas smirked. “Sam seems to agree with that assessment.”

“Oh god, not you too.” Dean laughed just as thunder crashed above them.

“We do seem to be in for a nice summer storm,” Cas mused, gazing at the dark clouds.

“You say that like it’s a good thing.”

Cas smiled up at the sky as drops began hitting his face. “It’s one of my favorite things.”

Dean breathed out, watching the rain beginning to fall on Cas as he stood there with his head leaned back and his arms slightly out at his sides. Dean suddenly thought it might be one of his favorite things too.

Cas looked back down at him, a mischievous glint in his eye. Dean had barely enough time to wonder why before Cas took off running.

“Oh, you too?!” Dean called out. “Son of a bitch!” he yelled as he began chasing behind him. 

The rain was pouring down now, filling the potholes and muddying the ruts. Dean and Cas splashed and slipped in their boots as they ran towards the docks.

All teasing aside, Dean really was a little faster than Cas, a little more agile, able to jump things Cas had to go around. It wasn’t too long before Dean had caught up.

At this point, however, he was not satisfied with simply passing Cas on the way to the ship. “Gotcha!” he hollered as he wrapped his arms around Cas and tackled him to the ground. 

Cas gasped and laughed and quickly detangled himself from Dean’s grasp. They both jumped up and began circling each other. 

“So, Dean...that’s how this is going to be?” he asked with a wicked grin.

“Hey,” Dean shrugged, “you started it by cheating with your head start. I’m just saying…”

“Hmm,” Cas nodded, “so be it.” He lunged at Dean.

Dean dodged and kicked at a puddle to spray water at Cas. 

Cas’s eyes went wide and he let out a laugh as he turned, scooping up a handful of mud to sling at Dean as he spun around to face him.

Dean blocked the mud clod with his arms, but didn’t drop them in time to see Cas crashing into him, shoving him against the wall or the building behind them. Dean did however recover in time to react appropriately to Cas’s mouth crashing against his own. 

Cas’s fingers dug into his sides and his chest pressed wet against Dean’s as Cas stretched to kiss him, messy and wet from the rain pouring over them. Dean grinned at Cas’s enthusiasm as his hands found their way into Cas’s hair. Cas hummed contentedly against Dean’s smile. 

Dean would never ever get tired of this.

He cupped Cas’s face in his hands and broke the kiss to look in Cas’s eyes. The moon gave him just enough light to see the way they crinkled as he smiled at Dean. How was Dean supposed to survive this? How was his heart not supposed to explode? He pulled Cas back in for a quick kiss before wrapping his arms tightly around him. 

He could feel the rise and fall of Cas’s chest, the way Cas’s face pressed against the side of his own, Cas’s questioning voice in his ear, “Dean?”

Dean kissed the side of his neck. “Hm?”

“Care to share your thoughts?”

Dean smiled into Cas’s hair as the rain continued to beat down around them. “You ever just...get really glad that you were sent to enlist me?”

Cas threw his head back and laughed, then looked back at Dean. “I do…get really glad that we met, regardless of the circumstances.” Cas’s hands were warm against Dean’s sides. “You have changed me, made me see the world and people in it with new light. You freed me in ways that I will never be able to thank you for....” he fixed Dean with a serious gaze, his eyes wandering to Dean’s lips then back up to his eyes, “and I had no idea it was possible to feel this way. I didn’t know I was capable of it.”

Dean licked his lips and dropped his head, thankful that the darkness probably concealed whatever blush he had going on. “Jesus, Cas, I just meant that you’re kinda fun to kiss sometimes.”

Dean felt Cas’s fingers under his chin, lifting his gaze back up. 

Cas’s eyes were soft. “No, you didn’t.”

Dean felt the corner of his mouth quirk into an almost smile. He huffed and dropped his head again, smiling at his feet. “No...I didn’t.” He traced his fingers down Cas’s arm to his hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. “I’m really glad you’re with us, Cas. We all are. We...I…” Dean huffed. “It means a lot.” 

When Dean finally looked up, Cas was studying him, a small smile on his face and an almost amused look in his eyes. “You never quite say what you mean, do you?” he whispered, the hand that wasn’t holding Dean’s coming up to cup his face.

Dean cringed. “Cas I…” 

Cas shook his head and pressed a thumb against Dean’s lips, silencing his apology. “It’s okay. I understand.” Cas’s lips pressed against his own again, more gently this time. Dean’s hand came up to cup the back of Cas’s neck and the other hand found the small of his back, pulling Cas flush against him. He could feel his heart rate rising again just in time for Cas to move his hands to Dean’s shoulders and reluctantly push back. “We should probably return to the ship.”

Dean pulled him back in. “Do we have to?”

Cas laughed; and oh man Dean was a goner, ‘cause he knew he could get drunk off that sound.. “I suppose we don’t have to do anything,” Cas mused, “but if we return to the ship, change, and dry off, I can more comfortably hold you as you fall asleep while I run my fingers through your hair and trace the lines of your face.”

Dean dropped his head to hide his face as he pushed off the wall, stepping around Cas and turning to head towards the docks. “Jesus, you’re sappy tonight.”

“You like it.”

Dean humphed. 

“Race you back?”

Dean paused. And glanced over his shoulder, reaching behind him. “Hold my hand as we walk back instead?”

Cas gave him one of those big, gummy grins. “Deal.”

Question to the lovelies who’ve read Ocean’s Brawl...

If I were were to write a few short fics from that au that told the stories and backstories of some of the other characters, starting with, say, Jody and Donna...is that something anyone would want?

Cause I’d love to tell about Jody and Donna and how they found each other and ended up joining the crew. I’d also love to tell Bobby and Rufus’s backstory and how their friendship developed and how they ended up basically adopting Sam and Dean and starting this whole thing. 

I have a sequel in the works (Harbor) that continues the main story. But there are some pretty good side stories in there that are itching to get out...

language help?

So...do any of you lovely people speak Swahili, and could I ask you to check a few sentences for me? It’s come up in a fic, but I’d like to make sure my translation is passable and I’m not actually saying something really dumb...

(if it comes down to it I can always just take it out and work around it, but I like languages, so...)

So, once upon a time (oh...back last November or so), @elioetoliver brought my attention to this amazing song by Cœur de Pirate called Oceans Brawl. It was gorgeous. It was peak Destiel. But it also filled my mind with images of the ocean and pirate!Dean and TFW who sail the seas fighting against slavery and a naval officer!Cas who is sent to enlist them but end up falling in with them instead. I didn’t write any of it down, because I already had other wips I was focused on, but the au was born in my head and grew and wouldn’t leave me alone and slowly became my favorite thing I’d never written.

Fast forward to the beginning of this summer. When I saw the post for DCBB, I instantly knew what I wanted to write...

Sneak peek:

The moon peeked from behind the clouds as Dean and the others stepped out onto the main deck. It lit the night just enough for Dean to be able to see movement on the deck of the enemy ship. Of course, this level of moonlight meant that the enemy could now see them as well. 

Dean nodded to Claire and readied himself at the cannon, grinning in anticipation. It didn’t matter if the enemy could see them now. It was already too late.

The call rang out from the gundeck below...
