(Miscarriage AU) Her stomach was twisted in knots, I had been for a while. Clarisse knocked on the door he had been locking himself inside, her voice barely carrying through the door. "Lyric? Please, come out and talk to me. I'm so worried." Her voice was breaking and the lump in her throat only grew when he didn't respond. "Please." She choked, leaning on the door. "I'm hurting too, I need you."
Lyric opened the door without a word and looked at her with heartbroken, tired eyes. The man was pale, his eyes carrying dark bags. Gaze dropping from her, he crossed his arms for support. He didn't know what to say to her, he didn't know if he could bring himself to say anything if he did. He'd lost his voice the moment the two of them got the news. He hadn't been eating, he hadn't been sleeping, and he hadn't spoken a word. He'd been spending the last few days mulling over his guilt, the pain he felt. One moment he was going to be a father and the next he wasn't. It was as if someone had given him happiness and then ripped it right out of his arms and told him he was stupid for thinking he could keep it in the first place. "I-I'm sorry." It was a struggle just to get the two words out, his voice hoarse from the lack of use. Another wave of guilt hit him hard. He shouldn't have closed her out. She was probably hurting more than he was. It was her happiness as much as his. Lyric pulled her into him with trembling hands, his arms wrapping around her to hold her close. "Clarisse, I'm so sorry-" he choked, "I-I'm so fucking sorry."
