I’ve Got Some Oceanfront Property in Arizona
Chapter: 1/1 (that’s right, I CAN write one-shots!)
Pairing: Evan Buckley/Eddie Diaz
A/N: I’ve been waiting for the perfect moment to turn this one loose, and I think today is it. Enjoy!
Eddie blinks at the TV screen as the credits start rolling. He and Buck have just finished another episode of … something, some show Buck had picked on Netflix. Truth be told, Eddie hadn’t been paying close enough attention to know what they watched. Because the theme song hadn’t even started before Buck was leaning over on the couch, crowding even further into Eddie’s personal space. They’ve long since stopped sitting on opposite corners of the sofa, started spending their movie nights side-by-side and balancing drinks on the expanse of cushions beside them.
But tonight, Buck had tucked himself against Eddie’s side, dropped his head on his shoulder until Eddie had moved his arm. It’s the same move Chris makes, on the rare occasion that his 11-year-old isn’t “too big” for snuggles, so it’s habit for Eddie to make room against his torso. His fingers had landed on Buck’s shoulder, and by the time he’d realized it, it had been too late for him to move them without it looking deliberate.
So for the last hour, he’s sat here, staring at a TV show he couldn’t focus enough to identify, trying to memorize every detail of Buck’s body against his. He’s mentally catalogued the warmth, the solid planes of muscle, how Buck’s whole body shakes when he laughs at something Eddie can only assume was funny. His breath tickles Eddie’s chin when he exhales, but Eddie doesn't think Buck has even noticed the proximity.
And now, the episode is over, but Buck hasn’t even tried to move. The icon in the corner is counting down: 15, 14, 13 seconds until the next episode plays automatically.
It freezes when Eddie reaches for the remote, doesn’t even realize that he’s pressed the ‘pause’ button until the screen stops flashing names at them both. He hadn’t meant to do that, hadn’t meant to put a stop to their evening.
And he hadn’t meant to say what came out of his mouth next, either.
