Hitchhiker’s Guide | Kara & Steve
"Les, can you give me a ride?”
Kara was out of breath, having jogged (not her strong suit) from several blocks away where her car had broken down (again). She’d gone to the back of the restaurant as though she’d owned the place (or at least belonged there) and sought out her friend.
She asked if Leslie would be getting off soon.
She wasn’t.
But Steve was, Leslie had pointed out, if Kara wanted to ask him.
Kara found Steve in the direction that Leslie had pointed. He was slicing up a freshly made pizza (which looked and smelled amazing and now Kara was hungry on top of everything else).
"Hey, Steve? Hey, hi. Um, so I have a huge favor to ask of you -- is there any way you could give me a ride? I’ve got an overdue dentist appointment in Norfolk which I’ve already like rescheduled like six times and I think they hate me for it and are probably about one more canceled appointment away from dropping me, which they can’t do because they are literally the only place in like a fifty mile radius that accepts my insurance.” She paused, “Yeah. So I dunno if you are getting off soon, but if on the off chance you are, and you don’t have anything going on, could you give me a lift? I’d obviously pay you and buy you lunch and try not to talk your ear off, but uh, no promises about that last bit.”
