right now the presence of lgbt characters & romances are still scarce, so i think lgbt cinema as a subgroup is necessary for us folks who want ourselves to be represented. a lot of the shows i only watch because they have a lgbt character. but if it’s impossible, i’d like there to be enough representation in the future that there doesn’t have to be exclusion. (but let’s face it - that’s a long shot.)
honestly same.. ‘queer’ cinema as a subgenre is problematic in its self though because... you can have genres in queer cinema?? like comedies and dramas(tho mainly dramas) and action(?) and period etc etc and to shove all of that under one ‘queer’ genre is problematic bc you are literally defining those films by the sexuality of the protagonist?? and nothing else??
