What are the differences between your me phantom side characters and the original. Aka mom dad Vladimir ect
There are a few differences, with large parallels they draw from the show. Their personalities stay the same (hopefully) but their jobs are the biggest difference.
Maddie and Jack (or, Momdad as Phantom calls them) are experts in ichthyology and cryptozoology. The study of fish and study of pseudoscience for mythical creatures. They mostly stick to marine mythological animals, studying and before Fathoms Below, they would be hired to create traps or weapons to deter the merfolk around Amity from bothering the fishermen or swimmers too much.
Before Phantom and Danny’s relationship, they were considered the first and foremost experts around and on the Island of Amity out of their sheer knowledge of how the mers and other monsters worked. They knew their aggression and because of that, thought they knew everything there was to know about the monsters they encountered. In Salt Water, Maddie mentioned that as a little girl something in a lake nearly pulled her under to try and drown her, thus beginning her lifelong fascination and repulsion with most sea monsters. It is implied that while the others were easy to dissuade, Phantom had several skills that allowed him to get around the Fenton’s traps and basically just play mind games with whoever crossed his path. In a one shot, we learn most of Phantom’s scarring is from humans and their ‘tools.’ It wasn’t until they witnessed Phantom’s dedication to Danny in FB, or that it had grown to Maddie in SW, that they learned there was traces of humanity and compassion, in even the scariest and toughest of the merpeople.
In OE, the Fentons have gone from enemies to friends to the surrounding merfolk, and constantly recording and learning, giving them little time to notice their son’s lack of passion when it comes to his college or career.
Vlad is an old friend of the Fentons, staying on the mainland mostly. He’s made his money by using his knowledge (and Fenton equipment) to capture all manner of mythical sea creatures that he sells on the black market for ludicrously high prices. Because Phantom is one of a kind (his black scales that change color that Vlad finds in FB give him away) puts Phantom at the top of the price list and Vlad becomes obsessed with catching him. His practice is highly illegal, if lucrative, and its said the undersea folk are well aware of Vlad’s comings and goings. He is thought to be dead until the end of Salt Water, and in between SW and Ocean’s End Vlad is put into the custody of the Fenton’s and Phantom, where he works off his actions by using his money to fund the Fenton’s research, which by SW-OE has turned in merfolk’s favor. Because they do not give weapons away to the fishermen that harm merfolk, a lot of their funding was cut by the islanders and the government. With Vlad’s help, they’d been able to continue research and look for ways to unite the land and sea better. Danny’s jet ski, swim suit and other gadgets are made by a combination him, his parents, Vlad and even Phantom’s input.
By the time we see him OE, he is a begrudging ally, if constantly fed up and victims of Phantom’s (and to a lesser extent, Danny’s) tricks and teasing. Danny has had a few close calls during the last few years, and Phantom knows that without Vlad’s help Danny wouldn’t have the technology he has now, so the merman is friendly, but also a little shit because he hasn’t truly forgiven Vlad for making him think he lost Danny in FB. (A merman’s memory is legendary, and Phantom is one of the smartest mers in the story.)
While Vlad knows he is under constant surveillance through the Fentons (Maddie at least) and especially the more murderous Phantom (Vlad has almost seen death first hand at the cause of Phantom, and this has never left him.) Vlad is an opportunist. While the Fentons are slow and gentle in their research now, Vlad hires a promising second hand, a girl with a grudge and basically a tool that he finds in Valerie Gray. Vlad was careful to keep Valerie and the infamous duo separate for two years, fearful that Phantom would turn on her or Valerie would start something Phantom would finish. She collected black and white data, learning to handle the merfolk in a way that maybe wasn’t the most softhanded, but it hadn’t gotten her killed yet, and Vlad paid well.
In OE, Vlad’s hand is forced, because spontaneous murders that no one can account for (as well as that suspicious traveling circus) and he has the three team up to search for clues and answers as to what the hell is going. The answer is taking longer than he would have liked...
guys i did the thing i hope you like the thing
Phantom is part merman, part banshee. Both sides of a coin designed to terror and or kill. We just haven't seen the banshee part until...
Requests are actually closed, (sketch commissions are open of course, and super cheap) but since I had this partly sketched out a few days ago, I didn't seem a problem with simply cleaning it up and submitting it.
"That's it! I'm putting your big scaley butt on a diet!"

against my better judgement im starting another story. but at least i got my writing juju back for them! i do like writing mer!Phantom, especially older mer!phantom.
AUGUST 10TH - AUGUST 23RD: Oceans End
We're here with our 6th feature! Again, I apologize for not getting away from Newfoundland yet but these guys are also from St. John's! They are Oceans End. Alex answered our Q&A for us and here it is.
What was the first show you ever played and how many people were there? The first show we ever played was kind of a last minute endeavour. We got asked to fill a spot at The Levee in Holdsworth Court, St. John's. It was a weekday show in early December, so there weren't too many people around. However, the people who were there stuck around for a while after they heard us play a few tunes. We noticed a few heads nodding, hands clapping... seemed like everyone was enjoying the racket we were making on stage! Despite the small crowd, it was a great feeling for a first show to see the few people there really enjoying our music. What was the biggest show you ever played? The biggest show that we've played so far was at Headquarters. We, again, came on board as a last min request to fill a spot in the debut show for another local band "Thrones", who we've made great friends with and hope to play more shows with in the future! This show was tons'o'fun! We had a great turn out of our own and there were lots of people there to see other bands who seemed not to mind sticking around the stage for our performance as well. Who are your favorite bands to play shows with? There's a lot of great bands around St. John's right now. It's almost hard to pick any favourites. Though, we have thoroughly enjoyed playing shows with some bands like "Don't Press The Button", "Thrones", "Greenlight", and also some acoustic performers such as Adam Baxter, Dave Walsh and Matthew Hare. We're also really looking forward to playing some up-comming shows with bands like "Chrome Cabot", "The Worse Kind" and "Faster Than Felix", just to name a few... There are many others we're excited to play with. Do you do any cover songs in your set? Right now we play one cover song: Hysteria by Muse. We get a great reaction from this song and always have fun playing it. We're looking into getting a couple more cover songs under our belts but with so many different musical influences amongst band members, it can be a challenging task to find just the right songs. Which songs usually get the best crowd reaction? We always get a great reaction when we play a few of our original songs: "Her Name" - makes you wanna dance! "Cold Stones" - The guitar solo is meant to tear your face off. "The People are Getting Stronger" - nice and fast with a pounding drum intro and lots of energy throughout. And a new song "The Ones That Get Out of Heaven" which we have only played once at Headquarters but got an awesome reaction from, it's kinda like Cold Stones and The People are Getting Stronger put together with rhythms akin to a train comming at you! Do you have any 'memorable fan moments'? We have lots. We really enjoy and appreciate fan feedback. Some of our fav fan comments have been "you guys should be playing festivals" and "look, it's the guys with the riffs!". Also, having members of other bands come up to us and express their interest in playing future shows with us is always flattering and certainly memorable with the compliments that follow. We love everything about our fans and friends! Without them we're nothing! What do you think of social networking sites and promoting your music? (ex: Facebook/Twitter/MySpace/Bandcamp/Purevolume) We try to be very active with social networking online. We're always trying to keep our facebook account active and interesting. Wether we're posting random foolishness to try and engage some fan reaction and just have some fun, or posting new pictures, graphics, videos or songs, we're always trying to give our fans something new to look at and enjoy online. We also make use of our website, www.oceansend.net, trying to keep it informative and update with media and show postings. The internet is a vicious publicity tool that all bands NEED to take advantage of! Who do you consider to be your main influences? As mentioned when explaining the difficulties in trying to pick cover songs for the band, we all have a lot of different musical influences. Just a taste: our influences range from Mars Volta and Muse to Avenged Sevenfold, Deftones, and Bullet for My Valentine and everything in between. Though we all have different styles of music that we're into, we all try to keep an open mind to everything. With open minds and ears, something musically inspiring exists in any style of music.
