Hey so I’m having trouble getting images into the hero generator and I was wondering how to do that. I drew them myself it just won’t show up on the generator even when I type in the exact file name.
Hiya @oceansmerchild!
So the image input field for the online generators don’t actually read local files, which is a limitation of the programming. However, you can upload files to the generator, which is different from just typing in your file’s local address.
I can understand the confusion since the default images on the generators seem like they’re local files, but those are actually hosted images on an online domain (I just made the urls short so they’ll look nicer). So the options you have to add an image are either type in an online image hosting site url (photobucket, imgur, whatever you like to use) or by uploading it from your local documents using the “Choose File” button right next to the input field. It looks something like this:
If you click that “Choose File” button, it’ll open a file upload dialog and you can select your image from there. When it uploads, it’ll generate a string of gibberish looking stuff called a “blob url” which is basically your image in text format which is readable by the generator. You don’t have to worry about what this text actually is, but it’ll look like this:
Then once you hit that “Generate Template” button, you should be good to go and your image will show up!
Hope that helped, let me know if you have any other problems. Looking forward to seeing your character in the archive!
