Dimensional Tides Part 1

So here we are with the first part of the ongoing story for @ockissweek The prompt for this one was "Greeting". I am afraid this will be a long story and will go deep into the next month(s?) and I will post every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday the next part. So be prepared and have fun. Miada rubbed her eyes forcefully. There was little hope of beating fatigue, but she wanted to get through at least this part before she went to sleep. Only a few days before, Asraya had mentioned that only those who achieved the best results in the final exam would be considered for the desired areas. So it meant that she had to be the best if she wanted to be part of her parents' old research team, otherwise her goal of finding out what happened to them back then would go up in smoke. And she had worked way too hard on it for that, slogging through all the basics from the ground up. Her head dropped to the table and she sighed heavily. Two pages, that's all she had to go on, but her eyes refused to cooperate. Miada felt warmth behind her and a moment later a kiss on her hair. "Come to sleep, Mis, it's no use anymore," Sykova spoke softly. She looked up at him languidly. He was standing next to her in just his sleep pants, holding out his hand for her to pick herself up. "Two pages..." she murmured wearily. "You're half asleep now. Give your mind a little rest. The exams are three weeks away." Sullenly, Miada grumbled and slowly tried to sit up. Chuckling, Sykova helped her up and just picked her up. "Before you hit your head..." "I won't." "I'm not sure." She felt him carry her over to the bedroom. For a moment, she didn't know if that was an advantage or a disadvantage now that they'd been living together for a few months, but right now she was just too tired to really find an answer to that. "You know you won't get on the research team if you overwork yourself, right?" asked Sykova gently. Slowly he put her down in the bed that was still warm from him. "I have to be on the team." "I know, sinda. You'll be fine." Miada wanted to mutter another reply, but was already too sluggish to do so. As soon as Sykova lay next to her and pulled her close, she was completely gone.

The splashing of the rain against the windows greeted Miada first, followed by Sykova's grumbling that meant he was still half asleep and looking for his motivation. She snuggled closer to him, ignoring the loss of her motivation to get up. How long they had lain there like that, she couldn't tell, but she could tell that it came to an end when she heard Bayeen come into the apartment. Miada deeply regretted that Bayeen and Fenor had gotten keys, at that moment. "Unfathomable darkness, look at that...," Bayeen laughed softly. Their footsteps came closer. Half-heartedly, Sykova lashed out at Bayeen when she was close enough, but from the sound of Bayeen's laughter, he had missed. Confirmation came when Bayeen tried to kiss her awake, but ended up between them because Sykova had pulled her into bed. "Don't make such a fuss in the morning," Miada grumbled against their laughter. "Did we wake you?" asked Bayeen with an apologetic tone. Miada opened one eye to find Bayeen's grinning face before her. "Urgh...I need sleep." "I told you that earlier today," Sykova teased her. "It couldn't have been that late." "How long did she make this time?" came Fenor's voice from the door. "Too long," Sykova replied. "Go away. I want to sleep." Miada tried to push Bayeen out of bed, but to no avail. "You're rarely in such a bad mood." That it also amused Fenor only worsened Miada's mood. "I can think of something to improve her mood," Bayeen suggested. "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" inquired Sykova. The thought of going back to live in the dorms after all popped into Miada's head. She tried to make a little room before Bayeen crushed her, simply by the fact that Bayeen was taller and heavier. What kind of morning was it to wake up and already hate everything? "I doubt it." Bayeen's waiting was the only thing that helped Sykova not say something stupid, they all knew that. "So you don't have an orgy in mind? I mean, since we're all together." "All right, that's it. I've had enough." Miada struggled out of bed and toward the bathroom. Through the door, she could still hear Sykova trying to get Fenor off her guard. Her gaze went to the bathtub. For the next few seconds, she was distracted by having to decide whether to bathe or not. As it happened, she didn't notice that it had become strangely quiet. It wasn't until she had decided to take a bath and was about to run water in that she noticed. The frustrated snort accompanied her into the living area. No sign of anyone, which was exceedingly suspicious. Miada crept around the corners like a thief, just to make sure the others weren't playing a trick on her. After she was sure she was alone, she stood in the living area, astonished, and grimaced. She was about to turn around when she heard the apartment door open. Over her shoulder, she saw that Fenor had come in. "Where are the others?" "Bayeen talked Sykova into organizing breakfast," he replied with a smirk. "This is going to take forever again, those two can't decide for hours, after all." "That's why I sent them alone." Miada raised her eyebrows and turned around completely. "Why is that?" "Partly because I thought you'd want to bathe in peace, and partly because you really need more rest. You look like you haven't slept in days." "It's not that bad." Fenor looked at her sternly, causing her to sigh. "All right, it's been little." "You know you have to be well-rested when the new council is sworn in? As newly graduated scientists, we have to be there." She just waved it off. "I know. Sometimes I wish I could remember things as easily as Sykova does." "I do, too. But now take your bath. We don't want those two bothering you." On her way back to the bathroom, Miada pressed another kiss to Fenor's cheek.

Another kiss week prompt, "safe", featuring Malia and Shaw.

Malia is nigh indestructible, but having "with great power comes great responsibility" drilled into her head from childhood while knowing the stakes if she follows the path of her predecessor, being in an environment that does not value her efforts/takes them from granted, and... Having black outs during battles and her body keeps fighting anyway... Leads to some emotional vulnerability.

Thankfully, the general of the opposing army is actually pretty insightful.
