Shortly after midnight on June 15th 1960, a dying thunderstorm system passed over the little town of Kopperl in Bosque County, Texas

Instead of cooling rains, a blast of superheated 75 mph wind descended on the town, sending temperatures soaring from 70 degrees to an estimated 140 degrees Fahrenheit within minutes.

According to eyewitness testimony, thermometers maxed out, the power went off and people scrambled out of their beds thinking their homes were on fire!

The event lasted over four hours. Crops were burned and many windows had been blown outwards.
