Google ‘golden circle Iceland’ and we will find many of book tour adverts to choose from. They will take us from Reykjavik to Þingvellir National Park, Geysir Geothermal Area and Gullfoss waterfall. Many people transit Iceland on their way to somewhere will find a short break visiting the Golden Circle and maybe take a quick refreshing dip into the mineral rich water of the Blue Lagoon. Noraini and I had half a day on our itinerary so we decided to spend our time exploring the Geysir Geothermal Area and Gullfoss. There is no entrance fee to go see the Geysir and Gullfoss. The entire area at the Geysir is like from a science fiction movie. Steam coming out from the ground. What we came to see was the mighty Strukkur geysir. It’s more than 1,000 years old. It spurts 100 degrees Celcius water every 6-10 minutes. Gullfoss is like 10 minutes drive from Geysir. The word ‘foss’ means ‘waterfall’ in Icelandic. Gullfoss stands for ‘golden falls’. Once you see it with your own eyes, you will understand why it is called Golden Falls. It’s unique triangle shaped waterfall makes it majestically stunning. Average water fall is 141 cubic meters per second (this is how we measure waterfalls). I found out that it is nearly impossible to get a good picture up close to waterfalls because the mist that is in the air quickly covers the lens of the camera. The first night of our holiday in Iceland, we stayed at ODDSSON Hotel. Conveniently located, immaculately clean, desk clerks speaks perfect English; very polite, very helpful and informative. Breakfast was delicious with a healthy variety. Highly recommended. #GoldenCircle #Þingvellir #Gullfoss #ODDSSON (at Strokkur) https://www.instagram.com/p/CXkkrIsPrlO/?utm_medium=tumblr
