HAPPY RAJO & SNANAPURNIMA TO ALL.. JAY JAGANNATH Odisha is celebrating its most zestful festival, RAJO. This is the festival of womanhood, feritility, prosperity, and harvesting. Laxmi Mata the Goddess of prosperity and mother earth the height of enduring fertility is worship. It is believed Mata Basumati and Mata Laxmi menstruate for 3 days. Firstday or PAHILI RAJA, it is the puja of Mata Laxmi. The girls get ready with new clothes, alta, shinngar, bindi, flowers, paan and indulge with games, and swings. Variety of dishes like poda ( pitha ) is made and exchanged with near & dear ones. Girls and ladies are restrained from work and walking bare foot one earth as it is resting period for Basumati. Cutting, griding, ploughing all stopped not to hurt this earth. How ceremonially the earth is being saved !!!! How ceremonially the women is respected!!! How respectfully the menstruation is regarded !!! Second day is Sankrant , celebatred with same fun and frolic. In the last day Mata Laxmi has a ceremonial bath with Ganga jal, Chandan, haldi called Thakurani Buda or Bhudaha means cooling of earth. Wish this fest will bring happier & prosper days ahead. JHUNA DHUPA AARTI Jhuna Dhupa Aarti is an integral part of any puja in Odisha, rather I would say mostly eastern part of India. This particular picture is Aarti offered during GajaLakshmi Puja. Traditionally it’s made of earthenware and has flared shape with a handle, so it’s easy to hold. It’s lit by burning a karpura below the coconut husk on which the Jhuna is sprinkled also known as Indian Frankincense. It’s an everyday ritual in my home during the evening Aarti. Blowing the Shankh, beating the Balakati ghanta (traditional flat Kansa bell), chanting the Aarti with Deep and Jhuna dhupa is a very common concept of any Odia household. The significance of Jhuna Dhupa are many, most popular is pushing away the negativity around you, the soothing impact heals our body and mind. One other significance is the sense of sacrifice, the virtue of sacrifice of oneself for the good of society, as it burns and turns into ashes and what’s left behind is the sweet smell. #jhunadhupa #odiaculture #odiatradition #odiapuja #odishagram #odishatales (at HSR Layout) https://www.instagram.com/p/CHBaIhyFIXC/?igshid=4nc1ji211hje
MAHALAYA- THE BEGINNING OF PUJAS Mahalaya is the Sanskrit word which literally means Great Abode and thus begins the phase of Devi Paksha... Goddess Durga starts descending towards earth on the calling to win over all evil. This year Mahalaya is super special as Maa Durga is taking a bit longer to descent.. Usually it’s from mahalaya we start counting our days to the Maha Saptami, Ashtami, Nabami and Dashami.. but this year it’s going to be a long wait and that’s because we have Two new moons this time and no auspicious ceremonies or rituals can be performed during this period. So, this year we need to wait a little longer for lunar month to be over. This isn’t the first time we are seeing such delay, a wait of 35 days also happened in 2001. No let’s not loose our hope as this year the Universe is throwing all sorts of curve balls towards us, but we will face them all with glory and smile on our face.
