As an Outlander viewer, you'd be lying to yourself if you claimed to not see Jamie Fraser as a force of a nature. The hefty highlander captured hearts in Diana Gabaldon's novels and again in Jamie's screen embodiment with Sam Heughan's portrayal in the Starz hit.

One name or nickname that's associated with the Scotsman is the "King of Men," and if you're less familiar with the terminology, then look no further than this line from Caitriona Balfe's Claire in the third season. "If you were to say that in the 20th century, you would be the king of all men," she tells her husband after he admires the grey streaks in her hair.

Shock Value (Season 1, Episode 9)

After Black Jack Randall captures Claire, Jamie makes a bad ass rescue bursting through the window with a gun at the ready. Apart from scaling walls to reach her, Jamie's disregard for his own safety to protect Claire sets him apart from others.

Shutting Down a Trial (Season 1, Episode 11)

As Claire faces a witch trial with Geillis, Jamie finally finds them and stops a group of court-goers from continuing to whip his wife. Standing armed, Jamie threatens anyone who tries to harm his wife, even if he's not certain about her "witch" status.

Tough Decisions (Season 2, Episode 13)

Fans of the series know Claire is everything to Jamie, so when he makes the gutting decision to have her return to the '40s through the stones, it's a testament to his strength. Jamie's not only physically strong, but emotionally as well.

Battle of Culloden (Season 3, Episode 1)

In the Season 3 premiere, Jamie finally faces his archnemesis Black Jack Randall on the battlefield at Culloden. Needless to say, only one of them walks away alive. 

Prison Break (Season 3, Episode 3)

When Jamie is serving time in prison, he briefly breaks out after believing that Claire may have returned, clearly proving he can accomplish some of the most impossible feats. His eventual return includes a hold-up of Lord John Grey with the red coat's own sword.

Saying Goodbye (Season 3, Episode 4)

Like his farewell to Claire, Jamie's decision to leave his son for the sake of maintaining that he's of legitimate lineage is heartbreaking and commendable. Without leaving, William could have faced some concerning questions about his similarities to the stable hand, and viewers know Jamie won't stand to see a child of his be caught up in trouble.

Taking Action (Season 3, Episode 12)

Rather than being a man of the times, Jamie has become a modern thinker when it comes to society — thanks to Claire — so when they happen across slave trading in the Caribbean, he purchases a man to set him free. Despite Claire's protest to purchase another person, Jamie makes good on his promise to help the man escape the danger he faces.

The Bear (Season 4, Episode 4)

While Claire and Jamie are in the woods, their camp is attacked, and at first they believe it's a bear. That doesn't deter Jamie from pursuing the threat. Ultimately, the bear turns out to be a man in a bear suit, but Jamie makes it out intact after a lengthy and exhausting fight.

Sacrifice (Season 4, Episode 13)

In the Season 4 finale, Jamie makes an offer to exchange freedom for Roger in return for his own imprisonment among the Mohawk. The choice stems from his guilt over being the reason Roger ended up there in the first place and selflessness for his own daughter's happiness, but Ian stays instead and Jamie's faced with one of his toughest goodbyes.
