I'm just curious what elite figure skaters do for off-ice training? Is it the same thing with all senior skaters or do they do something different? Thank you!
Thanks for asking!
Not all elite skaters will train in the same way. Most skaters will usually take some form of flexibility training (yoga/pilates etc) and probably dance (though the style can vary from skater to skater - not every skater does ballet, some do jazz, hip hop, ballroom etc). From there it is usually personal preference. A lot of skaters run, bike, and swim. Some like to hit the gym and lift. Some do trampoline work, some hike or climb, some do gymnastics.
A lot of it will depend on a skater’s personality (Jason Brown takes trampoline classes regularly, which makes sense!) and other assorted factors, such as body type and capability (Max Aaron, for example, has admitted in the past that ballet hurts his hips, suggesting he’s not capable of the natural turnout required for it).
