@statenskonstrad Passage by Katarina Löfström is a land art project in Bönhamn, at the UNESCO World Heritage Site Höga Kusten, where the postglacial land elevation is 8mm every year. The artist describes her thoughts as follows: “I would like to carve a stone staircase at the water's edge towards the sea somewhere in the world heritage site. The top step would lie right in the waterline and represent the present, the time when the artwork was created. Each step down into the water would symbolize a future generation. The stairs would thus slowly rise from the sea, as new generations came. Eventually it would stand completely on dry land and remind people of times that have been.” Passage was commissioned in 2011 by Public Art Agency Sweden. Since 1937, the Agency has produced about 2000 permanent works of art in public spaces. Foto: Maria Schibbye, Hans-Olof Utsi. Curator: Jörgen Nilsson.
