#OffermannStadium opened on this site in 1889 and played host to the minor league @BuffaloBisons for many decades. It was also the home to the legendary #IndianapolisClowns of the #NegroLeagues from 1951-55, the team #HenryAaron was playing on in 1952 when the #BostonBraves bought out his contract. During the Clowns #Buffalo residence, they also signed the first women to ever play professional #baseball (#ToniStone, #MamiePeanutJohnson and #ConnieMorgan). The site is now home to the #BuffaloAcademyfortheVisualandPerformingArts. And, irony of all ironies, a badly rusted and faded sign in the parking lot proclaims “No Ball Playing Allowed.” @MLB @MiLB @nlbmuseumkc @nlbmprez @baseballhall 🦬 ⚾️ (at Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts - BAVPA) https://www.instagram.com/p/CRk58xwsM3z/?utm_medium=tumblr
