I have been to probably a dozen weddings. I have gotten married. I do not know what an officiant's speech is supposed to include. Do I just get up and say "The couple is great and in love and I wish them happiness forever and also don't get in dumb fights about the dishes. Y'all consent? Great. You may kiss."?

I know that things can seem dismal at the moment, even hopeless. But there are still beauties in the mundane, the every day things we tend to take advantage of. While we can’t force other people to have empathy or sympathy, what we can control is our own behaviors and actions. Hold faith that one day everything will be better. Hold faith that justice will prevail. Don’t give in, don’t give up. Things always look up. Take pride in the small things and use them to get through your day to day routine. Things may be changing, but that doesn’t mean that you have to. Remember who you are and where you came from, always. And remember that we are all human, we all have families and memories and routines. Don’t let the world make you forget that. When you can’t make others be good, be the good.
